Description

The Chants, Dick Tracy b/w Choo Choo– ultra-rare 1961 45 RPM Doo Wop Single

Verve, V-K 10244, 1961

Disc: VG. Sleeve: older, non-original plain sleeve with minor writing.

Five teenage guys from Queens, New York got together in the early 1960's and formed The Chants. Singing Doo-Wop, they wowed the local girls and "fought it out" in many battle of the groups (very popular back then in Queens). The Chants had their own style of R&B Doo Wop, infused with the sly humor of groups like the Coasters, with great original songs. Arranged and Conducted by Billy Mure for Norman Granz's Verve label, this record has more sophisticated production qualities than most other doo-wop/R&B records of the era, rivaling Phil Spector's "wall of sound" concept which began around the same time. This disc is highly prized by collectors, and extremely hard to find.
