The Chameleons Strange Times Vinyl. Geffen Records. 1986.
This is my personal copy, one owner from release purchased in early 1987 (I owned it on tape first for some reason!). It is my favourite album of all time and has been with me through all the lows and highs of my life. Like me it has seen a bit of life and got a bit worn out along the way.
Been searching for a replacement copy for a long long time. Today that day came so it is time to offset the cost of the new one and difficult as it is, I have to part with my best record friend of 35 years.
The vinyl is visually graded as Very Good. It looks worn out when you hold it to the light. It has multiple hairlines across both sides of the record and a deeper looking scratch on Mad Jack on side one. There is a mark on the run in groove to Souls in Isolation on Side 2.
Miraculously these signs of wear and ageing don’t have as much effect on the playback as you would expect. It’s one of those records where it sounds better than it should. There is some light crackle on Side Two in the intro to Swamp Thing and some noticeable light clicks in the End of Time. The scratch on Mad Jack seems to have no effect at all. You’ll hear crackle between tracks. Playback is graded as VG overall.
The sleeve is graded as Very Good. The front and rear faces are great with no marks, creases or ringwear but the spine and top edge are worn. No splits as yet but on the way. The record comes with its original black inner sleeve which is well worn but has no splits.
Don’t buy this record if you want perfection - save up for one in better condition. But this is still quite listenable.
