Description

For sale is a complete set of twelve 1969 Capitol Disc Jockey Albums. Sent to radio stations throughout the 1960s, Capitol Records shipped out albums each month to tout their recording artists. In 1969 they did something special. Stated on the back covers starting on the January 1969 LP it reads, "Keep the cover and post it on a wall marked reserved for luscious 'Capitol Disc Jockey Albums.' After collecting a year's worth, what will emerge is a magical-fantastical puzzle in one luscious piece."  These albums were never for sale and often were tossed by the station, which makes them kind of rare. Certain months are easy to find, others are quite hard to come by. The December album in particular, with the shirtless "Santa" is very rare and often fetches over $300 alone. Most people collect these for the cover art, but there is some decent music on them as well. All popular 1960s genres are represented. From popular vocalists like Nancy Wilson, Lou Rawls and Nat King Cole; to Country stars like Tennessee Ernie Ford and Bobbie Gentry plus lots of Glen Campbell; to Pop and Rock stars such as James Taylor, Jim Croce and The Band. All the albums covers here are in VG to VG+ condition and so are the vinyls, which have Spin-Clean washed. Here's an album by album breakdown:
January 1969: Cover:  VG  Small split happening on the top edge but the others are very nice. Hard to see ring wear on the front. Corners show slight wear. Vinyl:  VG+  Several light scuffs and marks. Clean white labels. Lots of gloss.
February 1969: Cover:  VG+  No rips or splits. Light ring wear on the front and slightly bent corner. Edges and corners show slight wear and aging. Vinyl:  VG  Several light scuffs and marks. Clean white labels with a few spindle tracks.
March 1969: Cover:  VG+  Super nice front cover. Sharp corners and edges. Back cover (like most of these listed) has small circles of slight discoloration near all four corners, most likely from some form of adhesion used to display the cover.  Vinyl:  VG+  Looks unplayed and nearly M-. Clean and glossy.
April 1969: Cover:  VG  Clean front cover with one mark across the front. Hard-to-see light ring wear. Spine shows medium wear with a bit of flaking. Corners are worn and dinged. Rear cover has the circle marks on the corners. Vinyl:  G+  Lots of light scratches and marks. Many spindle tracks on the labels, which have check marks or Xs next to some tracks.
May 1969: Cover:  VG+  Nice front cover with only some light scuff marks. No visible ring wear. Mild wear on the edges and corners, but the top left one has a ding. Back looks nice but has the circle marks. Vinyl:   VG+  Side A is nearly perfect. Side B has some light scuffs and a hairline scratch. Clean labels.
June 1969: Cover:  VG  Front cover looks nice with only some light scratch marks (hard to see.) Bottom edge and corners show medium wear and dings. Bottom right corner has small bend. Back cover has the circle marks, very small writing shows age and wear. Vinyl  VG+  A few small light marks on the B side, otherwise looks nearly new.
July 1969: Cover:  VG  Front cover looks great with only light wear. Small 3 inch split happening on the bottom edge near the opening. Dinged and worn corners. Small amount of flaking on the spine. Discoloration circles on the back and some small pen marks next to two tracks. Displays nicely because the front cover looks nice. Vinyl:  VG  Light scuffs and scratches but nothing major. Lots of spindle tracks on the otherwise clean labels.
August 1969: Cover:  VG  Front looks nice with only mild age and wear. Top and bottom edges in the center are threatening to split and show some paper loss. Vinyl will be kept out of the jacket to prevent further damage. Otherwise just mild corner dings and slight wrinkles. Back cover looks nice, but has the small circles. Vinyl:  VG+  Slight scuffing and marks on the wax and hard to see spindle tracks on the clean labels.
September 1969: Cover:  VG  Slight ring wear on the front. Medium age and wear all over with slightly bent and dinges corners. Top edge shows some wear. Back cover looks good, has the circles. Vinyl:  VG+  Very light scuffs and marks. Wax is a little dull. Labels look near perfect.
October 1969: Cover:  VG  One of the harder to find months. The bottom edge of the jacket has some water damage. It's hard to see on the front, but evident on the back and bottom edge. It caused some wrinkling and small paper loss. It still displays well because otherwise there's just light aging and slight ring wear.  Vinyl:  VG  Lots of light scuffing and wear. Spindle tracks on the otherwise clean labels.
November 1969: Cover:  VG+  Very nice front with just a hint of ring wear. Top edge and top left corner show some wear. Back has the circles, but otherwise is great. Vinyl:  VG+  Very nice vinyl too, with only ultralight scuffing and wear.
December 1969: Cover:  VG+  The Santa! The hardest to find and this one is in nice shape. Just some visible wear around the edges and corners, which have slight dings and small wrinkles. Back has the circles too but looks nice. Vinyl:  VG+  Just a few light marks. Super clean labels. Looks unplayed.
