Description
Up for sale is a nice copy of The Birthday Party's 1980 debut single "Mr. Clarinet" b/w "Happy Birthday" on Australian label Missing Link Records. This copy of this particular single is especially coveted because it preceded the 1981 more widely released copy of this single on 4AD Records. This record was intended for wider release when Missing Link moved its base to the UK from Australia but the single was later withdrawn because the label never moved, and the single was released on 4AD. This is a hard to find issue and a definite must have for Birthday Party fans! Amazing line-up and amazing songs. I've seen this record sell for upwards of 80 dollars!
The record itself is gorgeous. I hesitate to give anything a NM grade but this is smooth, shiny and virtually flawless. I'll go with VG+ because there are a couple of tiny tiny tiny scuffs, probably from being played, like, once. They do not affect play. The paper sleeve is not in as great shape. I give it G/VG because there are seam splits and creasing but it borders on VG because there is no writing or mess and is in overall good condition. The record is in a white 45 sleeve and placed in back of the paper sleeve.
