Description
This record was The Bee Gees second album, released only in Australia and New Zealand, in 1966, a full year before their groundbreaking international release, “Bee Gees 1st”, which was actually their 3rd album, but their first international release. “Spicks and Specks” was their second album release, and the first one to yield an Australian hit, the self titled, “Spicks and Specks”. Buoyed by the success of “Spicks and Specks”, the brothers Gibb moved back to their homeland, Britain, from Australia, where they had been living since teenagers. They thought it would be a good move for their budding music careers, and they were right! One year later, they broke thru in a big way with their hit single, “New York Mining Disaster 1941”, (which briefly had the world tricked into thinking it was The Beatles under a different name), which was quickly followed by the album, “Bee Gees 1st”, and the rest is history.
This album is the first and only pressing of the Australian original album, imported in 1967, and kept beautifully intact for 54 years. I’m not an expert on grading records, but this one looks very clean and barely played. Australian covers, (and most album covers in Europe), were generally issued in thin laminate covers that had a tendency to bend a bit in the corners, even when brand new, but this copy has very little of that. Please check my pictures, because they tell the story, and I will not be accepting returns on this item under any circumstances. It’s guaranteed to play, and I think you can see the condition of the vinyl from the pictures.
The record was not issued in stereo, so naturally, this one is mono. The record is super rare and impossible to find, and this copy is, in my opinion, about the best version you could hope to find of this gem.
