Description
The Beatles Yesterday and Today Stereo 2nd State Butcher Block Unpeeled VG cover, NM(-) record.
Cover clearly shows Ringo's turtleneck in the background. Cover is only 12 1/4" wide. My other 3 copies of Yesterday & Today are all 12 3/4" wide. My understanding is that Butcher covers were narrowed to facilitate the paste-over, so this indicates a 2nd state Butcher.
Record is a very early A1/A5 pressing, consistent with a "Butcher Block"
Cover is very clean with exception of staining and some paper loss to bottom inch as pictured. Two inch split and fraying (1/4" of bottom right corner is separated) at bottom right seam (see pic) and a second one inch split in the middle bottom (see pictures).
Clean original sleeve included (1/2 inch fraying at bottom right).
Bottom right of rear cover stamped 2, indicating the cover was made by Imperial Paper Box Corp., Inc. of Brooklyn, NY used for the Scranton, Pa pressing plant records.
Deadwax Stampings: Side One ST1 2553 A1 with IAM triangle symbol stamped also associated with the Scranton, Pa. plant. Side Two ST2 2553 A5 with IAM triangle symbol stamped
Record is visually and by audition near mint minus (NM-) Cleaned with a VPI 16.5 and VPI fluid Auditioned on a high end system. Side One - No surface noise except one light pop on "Nowhere Man" Some light tics between tracks. Note: "Yesterday" is spectacular, the best that I've ever heard this song. Side Two - 1 light pop on "If I Needed Someone" Otherwise silent surfaces. A true audiophile pleasure to listen to - is this The Beatles' best album ? There's no hole in the middle stereo sound as on earlier albums, the stereo mix is excellent, enhancing the listening experience.
