Description
The Beatles / Yesterday and Today
Due to high British pressing standards, all UK Beatles albums had seven songs a side.
No American albums at the time could do more then five or six, but it's best that way,
Capitol had a way of producing and mastering them uniform to all their artists, and they sound great!
A mix of singles and extra album tracks comprise this smash hit American Beatles release,
But the Beatles themselves did not create the album.
When asked for a cover photo, Capitol Records
got a little prank pulled on them by the Beatles for treating their music like "chopped meat",
thus the famous "Butcher" jacket. (Then they figured out the joke was really on them -
Uh-oh! quick! get another picture to paste over that thing!) and the jacket was recalled.
Of course these "paste over" issues are highly valued as collectible as well,
partially because they are the second early pressing run of the record,
as well as the odd jacket situation.
Still in prank mode, this "red eye" photo (called the "trunk jacket") was deemed an appropriate replacement for the famous "butcher" photo. The record below was manufactured shortly after, (1966)
before the issue with the gold record award emblem was added to the jacket.
The RIAA number also indicates which run this one came from.
