The Beatles Yesterday and Today Black Label w/ Colorband Capitol Record Club LP

Here is an UNCOMMON Beatles’ Capitol Record Club LP, and please check my other current auction for another Beatles’ Capitol Record Club LP.

In this auction:

·        “YESTERDAY… and TODAY” LP by The Beatles

·       This is Capitol Records ST- 8-2553.

·       This is a STEREO LP.

·       This CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSING has its own special catalog number an “8” preceding the original LP catalog number. This LP’s catalog number is ST 8 – 2553. 

·        “Manufactured under license…” is printed on the labels. 

·       This CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSING with BLACK LABEL/COLOR BAND was issued in 1969. 

·       The Beatles’ CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSINGS have become VERY SOUGHT AFTER for their RARITY due to the very limited quantities pressed. You had to be a member of the Capitol Record Club to originally buy and have this LP shipped to you!! You could not walk into a record store in 1969 and purchase this Record Club Pressing from a bin or off the rack!

·       And this Record Club vinyl also comes with its CUSTOM RECORD CLUB COVER!! The COVER has ST 8-2553 printed on the rear cover at top right and on the lower portion of the spine.

·       The 3 BLACK BARS on the top left seam also identify this as a Record Club cover.

·       It is interesting to note that this Capitol Record Club pressing was unique in another way. According to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records:

“Unlike the standard Capitol albums available at the time it was issued, this Record Club LP features ALL OF THE SONGS IN TRUE STEREO.”

 (None of the cuts are in Duophonic simulated stereo.)

·       The Beatles Capitol Record Club Black Label/Color Band LPs have become tough to find these days, and among those the “Yesterday... and Today” pressing has become particularly hard-to-find, for sure.

·       The COVER is in VG CONDITION. The cover has light to moderate overall wear with light aging of the white front and white rear slicks. There is some light to moderate wear on 3 corners and along the opening and a very small push on the top right corner. There is a 1 ¾ -inch piece of clear tape at the center of the top seam and a 5 ¼ -inch piece of clear tape on the bottom seam from Paul’s leg to the opening. The spine is fine, and the seams are fine aside from the clear taped area where splits were mended. The initials “FDW” with a line under them are written in purple marker on the rear cover.

·       The VINYL is in VG CONDITION. There are a number of small light surface hairlines/scuffs but still lots of gloss. Side 2 has a couple of “feel-able” scuffs that cause a few pops, but THERE ARE NO SKIPS. I played both sides of this record on my Technics direct-drive turntable tracking at ½ gram, and there were NO SKIPS.

·       The UNIQUE RECORD CLUB CATALOG NUMBER ST 8-2553 is printed on BOTH LABELS. 

·       The Beatles’ Record Club pressings with black labels/color bands were the FIRST Beatles Capitol Record Club pressings which has made them more difficult to find and have higher values than the Beatles Capitol Record Club pressings with  green labels (that were issued LATER).
