Description
The Beatles’ “Yesterday… and Today” is a compilation album that was originally released in the United States and Canada in June 1966 by Capitol Records. It is known for its controversial original cover photograph, famously referred to as the “Butcher Cover,” which depicted the band dressed in white lab coats and covered with pieces of meat and doll parts. The public and retailers reacted negatively to this cover, leading Capitol Records to recall 750,000 copies and replace the cover with a more conventional photo of the band posing around a steamer trunk. The album itself is a collection of tracks from the Beatles’ two most recent LPs that had not yet been included on American albums, plus three songs from the LP they began recording in April 1966, and two songs that had only been released as a single. This compilation includes a diverse range of songs that reflect the Beatles’ musical development and experimentation during this period, including elements of American folk, country styles, and British psychedelia. The Capitol orange label reissue with the catalog number ST-2553 was released in 1976 and is a Jacksonville pressing. This version is a stereo reissue with the orange Capitol label that was used from 1976 to 1977.
