A 1st stereo pressing of Yellow Submarine from Jan 1969 on the UK Apple label. Matrix -1/-1. Labels state 'Sold In The UK...' - very importantly proving 1st issue. Stampers 1R/1O - these are very early stamper numbers and are almost certainly indicative that the record was made in late-68 for general release in Jan-69. There's no '.' dot after the YEX on the labels - again this validates earliest possible pressing. The record comes housed in a 1st issue Garrod and Lofthouse cover which exhibits the two red lines on the rear, 'Stereo' in the top-right, and the patent number 943895 in the bottom-right. What's quite interesting about this copy is that it has the original purchase receipt dating from Jan 18th 1969 - the day after general release. Hows about that for provenance! The price is in pounds, shillings, and pence showing the purchase was made pre-decimalisation [pre-1970]. Also, incidentally, the purchase was made in Liverpool at the famous Crane's Music Store on Hanover Street. Hanover House [the site of the music store and the theatre upstairs] was subsequently refurbished and renamed as the 'Brian Epstein Theatre'. Apparently Epstein was a frequent visitor presumably after a hard days work at his NEMS record shop just round the corner on Great Charlotte Street. Vinyl (Vg+/Ex-) Has been well cared for and judging by the condition of the labels has seen moderate use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks on each side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an excellent- level of playback on Side 1 and verygood+ on Side 2. It seems Side 2 has seen a bit more use and we're detecting some light background static. Side 1 is particularly well preserved, after a couple of light crackles in YS it plays back to a high standard with only light occasional interference. These original heavy set pressings really are a treat to behold. Even side 2, with some light interference in places, is still more than enjoyable and a very decent rendition in deed.
Cover (Vg+) Has been well cared for with a nice shiny front which is only exhibiting some light edge wear and a few age spots. The rear fares much better than most with a few light marks and some light ageing. The spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner - Sorry, no original black inner sleeve. The record will come housed in an Exstatic inner sleeve to protect it.
