Description

The Beatles: With the Beatles

Parlophone PMC 1206, 1963

First pressing, with all necessary points

This copy has all the points called-for to be a true first pressing:

  • Text above side number is: Recording first published 1963

  • Title of Roll Over Beethoven is indented on label

  • Side 2, track 3 has misprint “Gotta” instead of “Got a” (sleeve also has this misprint)

  • Side 2, track seven has erroneous credit “Jobete Mus. NCB” (corrected on later pressings to “Dominion.Belinda (Ldn.) Ltd.”).

  • Has “MTK” tax code by spindle hole

  • Label rim has “The Parlophone Co. Ltd.

  • Cover has three “flipback” flaps and large “Mono” to top right hand corner on front

  • Cover is Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. variant (both Garrod & Lofthouse and Ernest J Day & Co. Ltd. made sleeves for first pressings of this album)

  • Runouts stamped : XEX 447-1N and XEX 448-1N

This example of the first pressing is in better-than-decent condition. The front of the sleeve is very bright and clean (the slightly darker patch in the photos is my reflection!). There is just a little wear to the front of the sleeve where there always is, at the middle of the leading edge where people hold the sleeve open to insert the record.  The rear of the sleeve has some staining and foxing as you can see in the images.

The record itself is OK – not mint – but definitely in perfectly good, playable condition. Side one has a number of visible marks but these are surface marks only and are not audible (although there is a little light crackling between the tracks). Side 2 is pretty much un-marked. The record has that lovely, bright, crisp sound that you often get on recordings of this period.

Please note: In most of the images above, the album does not have its original EMI inner sleeve. I have however since found an good example of the correct inner sleeve – the “Take good care of your microgroove records . . . “, poly-lined sleeve. The record will therefore be in the correct inner sleeve when the winning bidder receives it. I have also added an image of the sleeve (final image above)

This record is one of several items of Beatles interest that I have listed on eBay at the moment. Click on See Other Items above if you would like to view the others.

I hope this description has given you enough to go on but should you require any further information, or more images, please do e-mail.  Please also look carefully at the hi-res photos – they are part of the description.  Thanks for your interest in this auction and good luck if you decide to bid.

Please note:  I will not respond to requests to close the auction early regardless of the value of the offer made.  Ending early is contrary to both the principle and spirit of an auction. It is also unfair to other eBayers who may be watching the auction intending to bid at a later time.
