Description
Up for sale today is a really superb copy of the Beatles White Album with the amazingly low number 0000615. This one is an original mono first press copy released in 1968 by Apple Records, Catalogue No. PMC 7067 / 7068. I don't really need to say much more about this, as you know all about this record. So here you go, this is what you're looking at:
Sleeve:
This is an original UK top opening Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve. It has slight yellowing from age but otherwise is a superb copy. There is no writing, no tears, no sticker marks and no edge splits. There is no edge wear and the corners are nice and square with hardly any sign of wear. The spine is fully intact with fully legible writing. The embossed “Beatles” is nice and clear with no damage. Similarly, the number is also fully legible with no wear or fading to the grey typing. The opening to the sleeve is in really nice condition with clean square edges and little sign of damage through use. Opening up the gatefold sleeve reveals a similar story, a nice clean inside cover with no visible defects and which still creaks on opening. It has internal flip backs that are also completely intact.
And of course, don't forget that magical low number – 0000615.
Overall a great copy in EX near mint condition.
Vinyl:
Both albums are in superb condition. All four sides look fantastic and retain their original shine. There are just the lightest of surface marks visible under a strong light. All four sides play through Near to Mint. There are no clicks or jumps.
Matrix / Stamper numbers:
Side 1 – XEX 709-1 Stamper 1 RR
Side 2 – XEX 710-1 Stamper 2G RM
Side 3 – XEX 711-1 Stamper 2 T
Side 4 – XEX 712-1 Stamper 4 PR
Labels:
Both discs have the original dark green Apple labels, which are clean with no writing, no sticker marks and hardly any spindle marks. The labels feature the “Sold in the UK….” Text but there is no mention of EMI text anywhere on either label, neither is there a tax code anywhere on the labels.
Inner Sleeves:
Both discs retain their original Apple black paper inner sleeves, which are in nice, condition but do unfortunately have some edge splits.
Photos:
Complete set of four photographs, which are the original thicker card editions. All are in nice clean condition with no tears, no writing, no pinholes or tape marks. There is a slight crease on Ringo.
Poster:
The set has the original Garrod & Lofthouse poster, which is complete with the lips and “I Love You” text. It is clean with no tears, no writing, no tape marks or pinholes. There are no splits on any of the fold creases. I'm certain this has never been on a wall at any time.
In summary, this is a really superb copy that has probably only had a handful of plays in close to 40 years. It is an original first pressing and comes in one of the lowest numbered sleeves seen on ebay for a while. Anyway, take a look at the pictures and make your own mind up. I'm happy to grade this set as being in excellent near mint condition throughout.
Don't miss your chance to acquire a really sought after (and truly low numbered) copy of this great collectable which will no doubt be an investment piece for the future.
Many thanks for looking and good luck if you're bidding!
