This is one of those increasingly rare White Albums, or 'Double Whites' as we called the untitled Beatles LP upon realease in 1968. It is in sought after Mono, being much rarer than the stereo pressings and is complete with its original black dye-cut EMI inner sleeves.
What makes this even more rare and desirable is its unique numbered, outer sleeve,
being a very low No. 0090719.
The matrices are:
Side One XEX 709-1, Mother 3, Stamper AL (T crossed out), being a low 38.
Side Two, XEX 710-1, Mother 1, Stamper PM, being a low 64.
Side Three, XEX 711-1, Mother 7, Stamper GDL, being 198.
Side Four, XEX 712-1, Mother 2, Stamper HR, being 72.
True first presses differ from later pressings, of just a few months, even and this LP has the unique representations of those forst presses, namely the vinyl being heavy and more solid, it has the darker green Apples on the labels, with ''Sold in U. K. subject to resale conditions: see price lists'' across the labels (later pressings did not have this). It also only has Sides 1 & 2, next to the 33/1/3, with ''An EMI Reording''. With the matrix information above, and its black inner sleeves and of course the numbered sleeve, being very very low, all of this information sets this apart from most White Albums.
Bear in mind, number wise, that most of the White Albums that surface on Ebay are high numbered, if numbered at all and the numbering can go up to over 500,000, so this, being just above 90,000 is a true find!
The vinyl on all four sides is actually very clean and glossy and the labels seem to have almost no spindle rubbing with an over-all appearance of little play. There are, on three sides, some longish looking surface marks, but on test playing the entire album on my Techincs SL1200 MK 2 turntable, using an audiophile stylus, I am pleased to say that nothing picks up.
The Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is original and as can be seen, has seen better days, with some yellowing of the 'white', but with the laminate all there, with just some lifting in patches along the spine, corners etc. There is some discolouration and corner wear to the bottom right, outside and inside, but I am not sure if this is a stain or what. Anyway, the sleeve is intact, with wear, as can be seen in the photos.
This also has the black, dye cut inner sleeves, which are original and intact, with just one small begining of a seam split, but other than that, no damage, just usual fading of the crispness of the soft paper, due to its age, being 46 years old!
There are no photo-cards or poster with this LP, but all in all an
original first pressing of this rare mono, numbered top opening LP.
