Original true 1st US pressing of “The Beatles” double album, also known as the “White Album” released by Capitol Records on November 25, 1968. Pressed at the Capitol pressing plant in Jacksonville, IL, this copy represents a very rare configuration of the matrix numbers and error number. The first pressings with all of the 7-spelling misprintS aren’t that much of a big rarity. Unlike those pressings, the labels of this copy contain a very rare number of spelling errors due to the fact that the “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?” was corrected with the question mark placed at the end. The labels of this copy could be called transitional as the corrector was seeing all of the errors but fixed only one of them. It’s hard to find the explanation of this, but this corrector’s action makes this copy extremely rare and highly collectible. The oddities don’t end here as the second vinyl contains the compressed mastering and somehow ended up in the configuration of this album at the Jacksonville pressing plant. We know that the vinyl containing such low matrix numbers, just like this copy with the -B10 / -B13 matrix numbers, are extremely rare. Known as the “HARRISON” compressed mastering, this pressing was supposed to be destroyed upon George’s insistence when he heard it during his visit to Capitol Records in 1968. Original 1st print cover that was among the first batch covers containing the numbers beginning with 0580000 to 1380000 with a large dot leading character preceding the number, which Capitol Records assigned to its Jacksonville, IL pressing plant. The laminated glossy gatefold cover contains the embossed "The Beatles" banner and “1348580” number in the lower right-hand corner on the front. The front cover contains an incredibly rare fluorescent red-orange sticker underneath the shrink wrap which we would like to describe in details due to its rarity

This “The Beatles” song title misprint sticker with the rounded corners and Apple Records logo was printed by the famous Day-Glo Color Corp. which invented daylight fluorescent pigments that were popularized in the 1960s and actively used in psychedelic art which found its reflection in the design of album covers at the time. One of the most vivid examples of the cooperation between Capitol Records and Day-Glo Color Corp. is “The Beatles Are Here” promotional banner that the former used for promoting Beatlemania nationwide. The sticker measures 6.5”x 6” and represents the only sticker variation used on the “White Album” which contains the Apple Records logo. As usual, during the printing some errors occurred. The “I Will” and “Julia” titles are listed at the bottom of the right column even though they should have been included in the left one as it contains the track titles from Side 1 / 2.

 Original 1st print Apple Records SWBO-101 1½” pressing ring labels containing the Capitol Records logo on the sliced apple side and 6 spelling misprints excluding the corrected “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?” title: "Obladi Oblada" (A6) “Rocky Racoon” (B5) "Bungalow Bill" (B7) "Revolution No. 1" (D5) "Revolution No. 9" (D6) "Goodnight" (D7). The thick glossy vinyl pressed by the Capitol Records, Jacksonville, IL pressing plant contains the first matrix numbers with the Side 3 / 4 having the compressed mastering. The full matrix numbers including the machine-stamped “O” plant identifier are as follows:

Side 1 – SWBO-X1-101-J44#3 2

Side 2 – SWBO-X2-101-J43#3 O

Side 3 – SWBO-X3-101-B10 O

Side 4 – SWBO-X4-101 B13#1 O

The album comes with a full set of original promotional extra materials and includes a large double-sided 23" x 34" color poster, four 8" x 10" portrait-style photos and a quite rare blank yellow separator sheet, as well as the original Apple Records die-cut plain white inner sleeves.

The beautiful cover remaining in the original factory shrink wrap is in Near Mint Minus condition. It's very clean only having some light age discoloration spots along the top edge with some of them being located on the sticker as seen on Photo #3. Aside from that the cover is in pristine condition and doesn't have any splits, tears, missing pieces, soiling, writing or residue. Just like the cover, all of the original memorabilia is in Near Mint condition. I grade the vinyl as strong Very Good Plus for Side 1/2 visually with its audio being Excellent and Very Good Plus for Side 3/4 visually with the Excellent Minus audio. The vinyl has some very light non-feelable surface marks as well as some light scuffs from the original inner sleeves, which are in Near Mint condition and don't have any splits or tears. The Near Mint Minus labels are very clean and don't have any scuffs, wear or spindle marks. The vinyl sounds great with just some very light occasional static that can be heard during the quiet passages. The end of Track 3 on Side 3 has a series of very light clicks, just like the beginning of Track 5 of Side 4, but our phonograph's tonearm is set to a light weight and if your tonearm is set to a heavier weight then perhaps, you aren't going to hear it. Additionally, it's most likely this and the occasional static will go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
