Description

A 1st pressing of Sgt Pepper on the UK Parlophone label from summer 1967. Matrix 1/1. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Garrod & Lofthouse cover with 'patents pending'. Please note this cover is the very first variation of the final commercial release of Pepper - the 'Fourth Proof'. As indicated by the code 'AR D13217' printed by the spine and 'Fourth Proof' at the top right of the flip-back. This package is fully completed by the Fool inner sleeve and dark-green cut-out sheet.
Vinyl (Ex+) In absolutely superb shape and has clearly only seen the very lightest of use. Under close inspection we struggled to make out a single mark. The surfaces are shiny almost mirror like - nice! A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. I can honestly say that the rendition on offer here is within the two or three best playbacks I have ever witnessed. And that is no mean feat. Interference is practically non existent - we detected a couple of crackles in a couple of places [literally]. Even 'When I'm Sixty Four' plays super good - and that is really really difficult to find. An absolute corker from start to finish!
Cover (Vg+) In beautiful condition and clearly hasn't been abused. Front and back are in nice condition just with a few light creases. Colours are all strong and bold - so no signs of fading. The interior is absolutely immaculate. Edge wear is light with just a touch more on the spine [the middle two words of SPLHCB have worn off]. But this really is the only vaguely noticeable fault. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity too. This is a well above average example of an original FOURTH PROOF.
Cut-outs (Ex) All intact - just a couple of light marks.
Flame Inner (Vg+) In great shape and escaped the worst ageing. Bottom seam has been taped up.
