In this auction:
-
“SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND” LP by the Beatles
-
This LP is Capitol Records MAS - 2653.
-
This LP was issued June 1, 1967.
-
This is a MONAURAL (MONO) PRESSING.
-
In fact, this is a FIRST MONO PRESSING OF THIS LP. We know this because:
-
“Subsidiary” is not in the label’s perimeter printing.
-
The Side 1 label has the shortened song title “A Little Help From My Friends”. (The second Mono pressing has the correct title “With a Little Help From My Friends”.)
-
First Pressing Covers do NOT credit Maclen Music or NEMS Enterprises. (Later covers added this information to the lower right corner on the rear of the cover in vertical print.)
-
-
The vinyl comes in its properly marked MAS – 2653 MONO COVER.
-
The VINYL has the triangle “?” in the trail-off wax which is the symbol Capitol Records used to identify vinyl pressed at its Scranton Pressing Plant.
-
The COVER is in VERY NICE/STRONG VG CONDITION. There is moderate overall wear. The front cover image is nice and clean with some light to moderate wear at the top in the sky area. The red rear cover is VERY NICE and does not show much wear with a little very light partial ring wear and center wear as you can see in the images. (As you probably know, the red rear covers of Sgt. Pepper LPs were often prone to show wear more easily than the front cover.) The corners have some light to moderate wear. The image inside the gate-fold cover is nice and clean. (Please check out the images.) There are NO seam splits, NO flaking on the seams, NO tears and NO writing on this cover.
-
The VINYL is in NICE VG to WEAK VG+ CONDITION with a number of very light surface hairlines (but none of them “feel-able”). The vinyl has lots of gloss!
-
This LP comes with its ORIGINAL CUSTOM RED, PINK and WHITE PAPER INNER SLEEVE that is quite flat. It has a 5 -inch split in the middle of the bottom edge.
-
It also comes with its ORIGINAL POSTER-BOARD INSERT OF CUT-OUTS on thick paper and has very light signs of handling.
-
I once read that John Lennon at one time remarked that you haven’t really heard “Sgt. Pepper” as it was intended to sound if you haven’t heard it in the original Mono.)
The MONO PRESSINGS of this Beatles’ LP title, especially FIRST PRESSINGS, have become VERY DESIRABLE and SOMEWHAT HARDER-TO-FIND.
A FIRST MONO PRESSING OF THIS BEATLES’ LANDMARK LP complete with original inner sleeve and “cut-outs” insert to add to your vinyl collection.
