Media (Play Tested): VG+ (Both Sides). Sits completely flat with no warping. Light marks on playing surface on both sides and sounds great. One of the original unbranded UK pressings and a beautiful, 1st UK pressing. Sorry for the UK-centric snobbery but THIS is how Sgt Pepper was intended to be heard. Has the label misprint on side one, wherein an extra full stop has been printed.
Sleeve: VG. FOURTH PROOF. (See more info below) Clean with no writing or marks. The spine is in fairly good shape but there is a bit of scuffing and also storage wear on the corners. A really nice sleeve and most importantly, a clear, intact Fourth Proof.
Inner Sleeve/Inserts: VG/VG+. Original Patents Applied For Fool inner has a couple of small stains but the record has been stored in a anti-static inner. The original green Peter Blake Insert is in excellent condition, albeit with a name written on the rear in pen.
The "Fourth Proof" sleeve represents the earliest possible pressing of the Sgt Pepper cover. The Fourth Proof was the final version of the various "prototypes" that were explored by the Beatles when the cover was being designed. The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small "test" run was undertaken to make sure everything looked OK. This small test run is characterised by the inverted “Fourth Proof” text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold – just above George Harrison’s head.
This is therefore the earliest possible "prototype" (test pressing) cover. Same fold-back have can printed text "AR D13217(?)" which was probably the reference number for the prototype text that was used.
I will just say that this is a stunning, package. The records look and sound great and the whole package is a lovely item to own and 100% worth the investment.
