THIS RARE VARIANT **OMITTING** THE SONG TITLE FOR JOHN LENNON’S SONG, A DAY IN THE LIFE, ON THE SIDE 2 RECORD LABEL!
No doubt, one of the ICONIC albums of the 20th Century, ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ was released by EMI/Parlophone, UK on the 1st June 1967. The album went straight to Number 1, and dominated the top position in the charts for 23 weeks. We don't see this rare side 2 label variant that often, and this issue is documented as a rare rare Beatles release.
Album Description and Condition:
This 1967 original UK Parlophone MONO VINYL LP is on the traditional Black & Yellow Parlophone Label, with ‘The Gramophone Co Ltd label’ rim, ‘Sold in the UK….’ and ‘Made in Gt. Britain’ printed to both sides of the record labels.
This is the RARER issue with the side 2 record label error, the side 2 label omits A Day in The Life song title credit, this song is the final track on side 2, and is usually printed just below SGT. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise), as you can see from the scan below, this song title is missing. This rare variant record label error was only on the UK mono issue of this Beatles 1967 Album.
Side 1 stamped matrix: XEX 637-1 and Side 2: XEX 638-1.
Side 1 stampers: 4 ALH and Side 2: 8 MRA.
Both record labels are in Excellent Plus condition, both label are clean with no handwriting or fading to the Yellow or Silver Printed text, and just a few very light centre spindle lines.
Both sides of the Vinyl Disc are in very nice Excellent Plus condition – very clean unmarked vinyl surfaces, with NO deep scratches or scuffs, showing nothing more than just light surface hairlines on both sides.
Audio Quality:
The album plays as good as it looks great sound quality well throughout the tracks.
The Vinyl Disc comes in it’s ORIGINAL, white inner record bag, which is in Excellent condition, NO seam splits, just mild creasing.
The album comes with a card Sgt Pepper Cut-Out, which is in SUPERB, UNDAMAGED Near Mint condition.
…..And is protected in it’s ORIGINAL First Issue Laminated Garrod & Lofthouse Internal Flip back gatefold Sleeve printed ‘PMC 7027 mono’ to the reverse.
This is a very nice sleeve in very nice Excellent condition, the sleeve still retains its DEEP GLOSS laminate to the front, inner gatefold and reverse. There is NO fading to the DEEP VIVID colors, and there is only very mild record indentation where the album has been stored. There are NO seam splits to any of the edges, just a couple of very minor corner bumps.
The inside of the Gatefold Sleeve is in SUPERB Near Mint condition, still smells new, and the two internal fold over flaps are UNDAMAGED. The spine edge is clean and firm, and clearly reads 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The reverse panel of the sleeve is in Excellent condition.
A Fine example of one of the most talked about albums of the 20th Century, 100% ORIGINAL and COMPLETE example, with the rarer side 2 label error.
