Description

The Beatles - Revolver

I am pleased to offer for sale this superb UK stereo 1st pressing of The Beatles seventh studio album, Revolver.

1966 saw the Beatles complete their last live tour in the US amid the controversy of John's "the Beatles are more popular than Jesus" quote. With no intention to tour their new material, the Beatles entered the studio in early '66 unbound by the requirement to reproduce the new album on stage. When combined with the Beatles new-found relationship with LSD, the result was an album that both musically and lyrically pushed the boundaries of contemporary pop music; issuing in the psychedelic era and laying the foundations of progressive rock. Revolver is always found in the top 5 of 'best ever album' charts and is a must have in any record collection.

Album Details:

Serial number: PCS 7009

Matrix number: YEX 605 - 1 / YEX 606 - 1

Stamper codes: 1 HA / 2 OT

Tax Codes: KT

Vinyl Weight: 165g

The -1 / -1 matrix numbers confirm that the record is a true UK first pressing. The mother & stamper codes communicate that the record was produced early in the production run. Consequently, the audio reproduction is fantastic. Take a listen yourself below!

The black labels with yellow Parlophone logo and silver text are the second variant as is evident from the correct spelling of T4 S2, "Doctor Robert". This was incorrectly titled, "Dr. Robert", on the first variant.

The original Garrod & Lofthouse front-side laminated flip-back sleeve is the first variant as is evident from the incorrect spelling of T4 S2, "Dr. Robert", on the tracklist present on the rear of the sleeve.

The album is complete with the original plain white "patents pending" inner sleeve.

Condition Report:

In addition to my own conservative grading, I include high-quality, comprehensive photographs as well as a complete audio recording in my listings to enable you to make an informed decision on the condition of this record yourself.

Disc: EXCELLENT

Labels: EXCELLENT

The labels are clean and retain rich, vibrant colours. A small number of dull spindle trails can be seen around each centre hole.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

The vinyl retains superb deep gloss playing surfaces to both sides. In bright daylight several light surface marks can be seen to both sides. None can be felt and I would not describe any as being scratches. Underneath the glare of a halogen desk lamp a number of wispy paper hairlines can be seen (usually present due to the record going in and out of the inner sleeve) alongside an iridescent rainbow shine.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT + / EXCELLENT -

Please note: the eBay app does not facilitate playback. Please use the internet site to enjoy the audio clips.

Side 1:

Side 2:

As can be heard in the recordings, the record sounds great. I have given a split grading as the audio on side 1 is noticeably better than side 2. During the lead-in and in between the first three tracks of side 2 there is audible background noise. The remaining songs on side 2 as well as all of side 1 are a strong EX. There is great channel separation, the bass is punchy, the vocals are clear.

Sleeve: EXCELLENT

The sleeve is in fantastic condition. Both sides are bright and clean. The laminate to the front side retains the original lustre. The cover art is vibrant. Minor yellowing is evident to both the front and rear approximately 1cm either side of the spine. I assume this is due to cello tape that was previously placed here to protect the spine (many people did this). Consequently, the spine is still square with a beautiful crisp edge. The top, bottom and opening edges are all without wear.

Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT

The original inner sleeve is in great condition. It is very clean and displays only mild creasing.

Additional Details:

Before the audio test, the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.

After cleaning, the vinyl was placed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.

The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.

The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
