This is my own copy of the Revolver Album bought in Cowlings Record and Gramophone shop in Leicester, UK. From memory I think that I did not buy this LP until early in 1967.
I was a keen young Beatles fan from the early days in late 1962 and used to listen to their radio programme "Pop Go the Beatles" on the BBC whenever I could, (annoyingly it was broadcast at 17.00 hours on a weekday and I as a young worker often did not get home until after 18.00 and regularly missed the programme). I trained my mother to record the programme on a reel-to-reel tape recorder and still have the tapes!
I bought nearly all of the early Beatles LPs at the point of issue and have since sold them all. This LP is the last of the old ones. By 1966 I had moved on to folk music ( Dylan, Martin Carthy etc.) and was not keeping up with the Beatles. By then I had left work and gone to college and therefore had little money for luxuries such as LPs. However on hearing this LP which was a real step up in quality music, I just had to buy it and from memory I would think that I got it on receiving the January 1967 student grant cheque. What a waster!!
I've played this record a lot at the time so it is well used but still plays through nicely with no jumping across grooves and no sticking in any grooves. There is a bit of crackle heard in the quiet passage introducing Good day Sunshine and also heard faintly between tracks but the overall sound quality is pretty good because it was a quality vinyl product and Parlophone LPs were recorded at a loud level. I would describe the disc therefore as being in very good condition. The cover is sound with all the flip-overs intact. The laminate has shrunk slightly at the flip-overs but they are all in place with a few light creases. There are no seam splits, just a little corner wear and a slight "ring" impression. The inner sleeve is an Emitex and has gone to sepia but is sound. The reverse of the cover has the "Cowlings" shop sticker at the bottom, as you can may see in the photo. It would be unwise to remove this after all these years and I think it's a nice touch of authenticity to have it in place.
