Description

The Beatles, Rubber Soul: Mono PMC 1267.
This is an original UK second pressing released in 1965 on Parlophone records.
The second pressing came very soon after the album was released as John was unhappy with the sound quality of the so called 'loud cut' first pressing and asked for it to be repressed.
There are several features unique to this pressing:

  • Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve;
  • EMI 'protect your records' lined inner sleeve; and
  • XEX 579-4 & XEX 580-4 matrix numbers.
  • Black labels with a Yellow Parlophone logo, and with:
  • "Sold in U.K. ..." text below the Parlophone logo,
  • "The Gramophone co. ..." text printed around the perimeter; and
  • ?1965 publishers credit.

The condition of the album is as follows:

Sleeve: Very Good +

The original Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve looks great.
The front retains the original gloss sheen with bright colours.
The laminate covering has a slight ripple in the in the top right hand corner and a small bubble on the left hand side.
The corners and opening edge show subtle signs of age related wear but are still very useable.
The rear is very clean with only a couple of small marks.
The flipbacks are in great condition; they are very clean and are without any folds or creases.

Inner Sleeve: Very Good

Original off-white 'protect your records' lined EMI inner sleeve.
 Very clean with minimal discolouration.
Graded VG as it has a crease and small rip in one of the corners.
In addition, an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve is provided which the record is stored in (see last picture).

Disc: Excellent   I agree with JL and much prefer the 2nd -4/-4 pressing to the earlier -1/-1 ‘Loud Cut’ - it’s much smoother. And this is a really nice disc to listen to it on.
Playback is fantastic. The individual instruments are well defined, there is minimal background crackle and no distortion.
Side 1 has just one point to note: 'Michelle' has three very quiet pops at the very start.
Side 2 is close to near mint audio.
Visually the disc looks great, retaining its original mirror-like finish.
There is one visible mark on either side. Otherwise only a few wispy hairlines.
The labels are bright and clean, with no writing and minimal spindle wear.

Overall a really nice copy of an original 60s pressing! A great addition to any collection.
