The Roland Rennie Collection

Coming up for the foreseeable future, is a record collection that is quite unique. It is the personal collection of the late great Mr. Roland Rennie who was the managing director at Polydor records in the UK during the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. There are some unique records, including 7 inch singles and LP's, along with Acetates, Demo's/Promo's and Factory sample records. Most are very early issues, if not the first to be produced. All of the main Polydor artists are present, including international and UK labels connected to Polydor.

In 1950, a young man named Roland Rennie joined EMI records in Hayes, Middlesex, UK. Roland quickly grew with the company and saw its success mushroom manyfold during the late 1950's and early 1960's.

During his 12 years at EMI, he held many positions and eventually became the right hand man to EMI managing director, L.G. Wood in 1959, and was closely involved with major affiliation switches by major American firms. He oversaw the changes from British Decca to EMI and of Liberty and United records. His experience would put him in the top 6 of most knowledgeable executives in the industry at that time.

In 1962, Roland was a member of the team reponsible for the conception of the 'Stateside' label, which became the outlet in the UK and many other countries for: Scepter, Vee Jay, Diamond, Swan, Laurie; and a dozen other U.S. ensigns.

In addition, under instruction from Sir George Martin, Roland was also the person responsible for The Beatles' entrance onto the American stage, and was directly involved in negotations for them to appear on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time.

In 1965, he left EMI to take up the position of managing director at Polydor records in the UK, and directly oversaw the signings to the label of: The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Bee Gees, Sonny & Cher, Wilson Pickett, Ben E King, Otis Redding, The Drifters, Joe Tex, Patti and her Belles, Don Covay, Barbara Lewis and Soloman Burke, to name but a few.

Side 1 condition:

The surface and shine of the vinyl is excellent with a few marks and light rubs on the surface.

There is very little interference with playback, it is wonderful, in fact, it's the best example I have ecer heard in ocer 20 years. This very little background noise throughout. Even on the quieter tracks like; 'Anna (Go To Him)' and 'Misery' there is low amounts of background noise and the listening experience is super.
The side plays through without any sticks, loud pops or jumps.

The black and yellow Parlophone label with; a Factory Sample - Not For Sale sticker is in excellent condition with only light spider trails around the centre hole.
Generally, the label is very pleasing to the eye and the printed text boldly stands out with very little fading present.

Side 2 condition:

Side 2 plays through beautifully with the lowest amount of background noise tgat I have ever heard with this album. There are no sticks, no loud pops and no jumps, it plays beautifully.

The excellent shine and surface of the vinyl on side 2 is equal to that as described on side 1. There are a few marks and lines but no deep scratches.

The Parlophone label on side 2 with "Sold in the UK...." is in excellent condition. Again, there is a little discolouration and light wear around the centre hole but the text remains visually bold with no obvious fading.

The Emitex inner sleeve is in excellent plus condition with no fading, no tears, no seam splits, light creasing and very little discolouration.

The E. J. Day Ltd. outer sleeve with Angus McBean credit in the bottom right hand corner of the front panel is in very good condition with a nice looking front panel but some wear to the corners and soke perimeter wear.
On the rear panel, the print is excellent, but there is clear tape on 2 margins, where they have obviously lifted previously. There is also some additional wear in the upper left corner of the rear panel.

The rear panel shows quite a bit of wear and discolouration but the print remains very good.
