Description
This auction is for one of the very earliest pressings of the Beatles album 'Please Please Me' on the Black & Gold Parlophone label. Released on 22nd March 1963 this LP was initially only available in Mono. Records sold in the first 10 days notoriously hold the publishing credit 'Dick James' on six of the tracks. Later pressings credit the six tracks to the new company 'Northern Songs'. Not only was this particular record sold in the first week of release, but its stamper markers indicate it was one of the first ever manufactured! . Cover - Large 'Mono' printed by Ernest J Day in excellent condition. Some very minor marks and corner wear. Other than that a very nice copy in deed. No fade on the back, secure flaps, spine fully intact. inc Emitex. Vinyl - The record has been played many times as you can tell from the lable shots. There are a number of marks over both sides ranging from light, through to medium, so back ground crackle is apparent on playback. Tracks like 'Twist & Shout' & 'I Saw Her Standing..' due to their higher volume are largely unnaffected and sound great. The deep grooves of the record still managing to pipe out a rich strong sound. When you come to the more lower-key tracks you can hear background crackle. I personally wouldn't say this over powers the music, but it is all the same apparent. The vinyl lies flat and does not skip, or have any loud pops. It is a good playable copy, but by no means Hi-fi. In addition to the record I've also thrown in a a few pages from a recent edition of the Times commemorating 25 years since Lennon's death. It includes a replica of the front page from the time and lots of other pictures/details regarding his life. Happy bidding - please check out my other LP's
