Description
The Beatles - The Beatles - Please Please Me Decca Contract Pressing Summer/Autumn 1963. Rare Album. This is the 3rd pressing of this album (The first 2 were on the highly collectable Gold/Black Parlophone label) Parlophone changed to the Yellow/Black label just as this album came out and this was the first pressing to use the new label. Due to the huge amount of orders this album had Parlophone contracted some of the pressings out, this pressing is the now much sought after Decca Pressing.
I have been onto the very informative site 'The Beatles Collection' that explains all the differences between the various pressings and this is what they had to say about the Decca pressing:
Decca contract pressing, summer-autumn 1963. Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. front laminated cover, with large “mono” on front. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Parlophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Recording first published 1963?. Tracing-paper-lined “Use Emitex” die-cut inner sleeve. These are distinguishing characteristics Decca:
1. There is no tax code around the centre hole on either side of the disc.
2. There’s a light ridge that runs around approximately 5mm out from the centre hole. This ridge is also 41mm in from the edge of the label.
3. The most promiment groove, which is a typical characteristic of Decca LP presses is approximately 31mm out from the centre hole and 15mm in from the edge of the label.
4. There is no tax code stamped at the 12 o’clock position.
5. The mother plate number (either single or double figured) is at the 9 o’clock position. There is no tx code stamped above it.
6. The contract pressings did NOT utilise the BUCKINGHAM stamper codes, so there are no such letters at the 3 o’clock position.
7. The matrix number is stamped at the 6 o’clock position in the deadwax.
Matrix numbers: Side 1: XEX 421-1N; Side 2: XEX 422-1N.
I have double checked and this is defiantly the Decca pressing There is nothing stamped at the 12 O'Clock position, The Number 4 is stamped at the 9 O'Clock position, The matrix number is correct and is at 6 O'Clock. these were only found on the Decca pressing. Condition:
Vinyl: The vinyl is in very good condition (Not Excellent) it has a few marks, that you might expect form a record of this age, but no scratches. I have played both sides through this evening and they play perfectly with no jumps or pops and only the minimal noise you would expect between tracks.
Inner Sleeve: Is original wax lined paper 'Emitex' sleeve. It is in very good condition (near excellent) witj no tears and just a few creases at the corners.
Sleeve: Laminated front with no tears along the edges or seams the back has a name 'Yvonne' written in very small writing that is starting to fade with age in the top right hand corner, this is found on many album from the 60's where teenagers took their records to friends or parties and made sure they got them back (I was shown the first Small Faces album by a dealer recently that was nearly £100 and had a name written all over the back between every picture of the band!) the is a very small tear on the back corner (Not a split seam) where a little of the card had come off so you can't see the name of the printer it is very small and hardly noticable (I only saw it as I was looking for the printers name) for more information on the different pressings please see:

I will only post this item Registered in the UK and International signed for overseas as I have had a lot of items go missing in the post recently (Nearly 10 since the beginning of December) it costs a bit more but the item can be tracked and is insured.
