Description
The Beatles Collection is a box set of the Beatles' vinyl albums released in the United States in November 1978 and the following month in the United Kingdom. It contains the official catalogue of the Beatles in stereo, and a new compilation called Rarities (not the official Rarities album released in the 1980s).
As the story goes, Capitol records assembled a collection of all the British releases as a gift for its sales team. Because Capitol had released bastardized versions of the Beatles' catalogue in the United States, this was the first time all the British releases (the only releases that mattered in the eyes of the Beatles themselves) were assembled together into one box set.
The American issue by Capitol Records contained the British pressings of the same 12 original albums, with the American pressing of Rarities. The latter differed from its British counterpart in that it included the previously released English-language versions of "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand", rather than the German-language version found on the British Rarities compilation. Please note in the photo that the Rarities disc shows the label as having "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" and the sticker on the shrink wrap says the same. The American edition of the box set was a limited edition of only 3000 numbered copies.
The box includes all 13 British albums (not Magical Mystery Tour as that was an American release), the Rarities album (never sealed), a poster of the White Album portraits and the numbered box (#0167) that everything comes in.
All 13 albums are still sealed in their original shrink wrap and all still have the original sticker that says "Imported From England".
I even have the original shrink wrap that was on the box when I got it but it deteriorated over the years. Please refer to the photo and the shrinkwrap still has the 2 original gold stickers saying "Limited Edition" and a list of the contents.
This is not one of the repro sets from the 2000s. This is the original 1978 US set that started it all.
