If the Butcher Cover is the 'cornerstone' of any serious Beatles collection this has to be a close second!!

According to a Beatles collector website the scarcity factor (on a scale of one to ten - ten being the scarcest)  of this LP rivals the infamous Butcher Cover!!

To wit:  Meet the Beatles! in mono without publishers' credits on the label rates a 7 or 8
The Yesterday...and Today first state butcher covers rate at 8 for mono copies and 9 for stereo copies.

About this particular LP. The jacket is great...no writing, tears, scuffs, splits or record show-through...front or back. The edges and corners and spine are mostly still crisp and pointy. There is still a good 'gloss' factor on the front and the photo, or "slick" is perfectly proportioned on the front cover...not all of them were. The whites (front and back) have not yellowed except for a small area along the back open edge which is really barely noticeable...it doesn't even show up on the pic...but I thought I should mention it. The sleeve is not"mint". It shows some signs of wear but nothing serious and overall most excellent.  

The inner sleeve is also almost like new...still bright and crisp.

Going by the chart below I would say the vinyl is somewhere between very good and very good plus condition. Of course rating vinyl is subjective so please contact me if you have any questions. There are some light surface scratches (marks?) but no deep scratches and the disc has retained a really good amount of shine and gloss. The images in the pics of the record are not defects... they are the photographer...sorry!

These highly desirable albums are becoming harder and harder to find...especially in this condition... as they fall into the hands of collectors. They are becoming more valuable every day

Meet The Beatles! is the second Beatles' album released in the United States, despite the "first album" claim on its cover. Released on 20 January 1964, it was the first Capitol Records Beatles album. Capitol is a sister company to Parlophone, the Beatles British label, and both are subsidiaries of EMI.

Just ten days earlier Chicago's Vee-Jay Records released Introducing... The Beatles, which had been delayed for release from the previous summer; perhaps as a result of the Vee-Jay release, Liberty Music Shops advertised in the New York Times of 12 January 1964, that Meet The Beatles was available for purchase on that date, an ad not authorised by Capitol.

The album opens with the December 1963 Capitol single "I Want to Hold Your Hand"/"I Saw Her Standing There", and the B-side "This Boy" from the original November 1963 Parlophone version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand." It contains many of the tracks from With the Beatles and shares the same cover photograph. However, "You Really Got A Hold On Me", "Devil in Her Heart", "Money (That's What I Want)", "Please Mister Postman" and "Roll Over Beethoven", were omitted from Meet the Beatles and released on the next Capitol album, The Beatles' Second Album. The latter two tracks were also released on the EP Four By The Beatles.

The track "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was originally released as a UK (and U.S.) single A-side and "This Boy" was originally released on the "I Want to Hold Your Hand" B-side in the UK. "I Saw Her Standing There" was from Please Please Me, and the remaining tracks were from With The Beatles.

Grading chart

MINT- (M-): A RECORD THAT LOOKS LIKE IT IS ALMOST MINT, BUT IT HAS SMALL FLAWS THAT DO NOT EFFECT THE PLAY OF THE RECORD.

VERY GOOD + (VG+): RECORD HAS BEEN HANDLED AND PLAYED INFREQUENTLY OR VERY CAREFULLY, THIS COULD MEAN THAT THERE ARE LIGHT PAPER SCUFFS, OR SLIGHT SCRATCHES THAT WILL NOT EFFECT THE PLAY. LIGHT WARPS THAT DO NOT EFFECT THE SOUND ARE OK.

VERY GOOD (VG): THE RECORD COULD SHOW SIGNS OF HANDLING AND PLAYING, SUCH AS LOSS OF VINYL LUSTRE, LIGHT SURFACE SCRATCHES, GROOVE WEAR AND SPINDLE TRAILS FROM COUNTLESS SPINS ON THE TURNTABLE. THE RECORD MAY HAVE SOME AUDIBLE SURFACE NOISE WHEN PLAYED, ALTHOUGH ANY SUCH NOISE SHOULD NOT OVERWHELM THE MUSIC.

GOOD (G): GOOD SHOULD MEAN THE RECORD IS WELL-PLAYED WITH ANY NUMBER OF DEFECTS SUCH AS COMPLETE LOSS OF SURFACE SHEEN, AGGRAVATING SURFACE NOISE ETC. BUT CAN STILL BE PLAYED WITHOUT SKIPPING.
