Description

This is a great find.  This is The Beatles infamous 1968 Lp "THE WHITE ALBUM" on the APPLE RECORDS label.  However, this is the MONO version from the U.K. # PMC 7068.  Any Boomer remembers that back in the "60's albums were released in both mono and stereo.  And the stereo version always cost a dollar or two more.  And as any Beatles Audiophile collector knows, for some strange reason, The Beatles' albums were always different in mono than in stereo whether it be a totally different recording or a different mix. Here's an Lp that wasn't widely available in the USA in MONO because STEREO at that time took a stronghold on the public and that's what was in demand.  This album is fascinating because everyone knows what THE WHITE ALBUM sounds like in stereo.  But to hear it in MONO is a whole new experience.  The mixes are totally different than the Stereo version.  For example:  DON'T PASS ME BY (faster, different fiddle ending), HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN (much better mix in mono than stereo), BLACKBIRD (different bird in the background), PIGGIES (different pigs and mix), HELTER SKELTER ( totally different mix, in my opinion not as powerful in mono as in stereo, plus a very disappointing ending).  These are just a few of the many differences between the stereo and mono versions of the Lp.  Most Beatles fans in the USA have never heard this Lp like this before.  The cover is in great condition with very minor (and I do mean minor) dings on the corners.  The "white" color of the cover is near mint.  The spine is in excellent condition.  The vinyl records are in great shape.  There may be a few marks on the vinyl but that from sliding in and out of the inner sleves.  There may be a pop or click now and then but, hey, we're talking about an album that's 43 years old.  This Lp also contains the four portraits plus the poster.  This is indeed a great addition for any serious Beatles collector.

This Lp has no serial number which means it is not a first pressing. However it has been in my posession since the late '70's when I bought it overseas. Also after looking at the cover under bright light I have to say the it has yellowed near the edges over the years (they weren't a true white to begin with) and there is a small crease near the spine on the front cover near the center left. Anyone who has already placed a bid on this item and would now like to retract I totally understand. I try to be as honest as I can with the items I sell.

Several people have emailed me and asked if this opens from the top or the side. Though I am aware that many European Lps open from the top I did buy this while in Holland back in the '70's and it does open from the side, sorry not the top.
