Though 'Love Me Do' was The Beatles' first release in their home country, in the USA their first single was 'Please Please Me' (issued as the follow-up in the UK). 'Love Me Do' was not issued as a 45 in the USA until after the band's major breakthrough in spring 1964
In the UK, 'Love Me Do' was featured on The Beatles' first album Please Please Me
Though it was recorded on two-track tape, only the mono master of 'Love Me Do' was kept, so the song has never been available in true stereo
'Love Me Do' peaked at number 17 in the UK Record Retailer singles chart in 1962 - a healthy achievement for a debut
John played harmonica on 'Love Me Do' and several of The Beatles' earliest recordings
