THE BEATLES
‘Love Me Do’ b/w ‘P.S. I Love You’
Parlophone - 45-R 4949 – 1962
Very rare red label UK pressing of ‘Love Me Do’ in original Parlophone sleeve. The A side matrix numbers are 7XCE 17144-1N with ZT 1 at 9 o’clock and G at 3 o’clock. The B side matrix numbers are 7XCE 17145-1N with ZT 1 at 9 o’clock and T at 3 o’clock.
A ZT tax code stamped in the runout indicates a pressing made before November 1962 when the code changed to PT.
‘Made In Gt. Britain’ is printed under the Parlophone logo on the right hand side of the label. Both labels are clean without any writing, stickers or tears. The vinyl has quite a few little hairline scratches but they do not affect the sound of the record. I have listened to both sides and it sounds fantastic with very little surface noise. 7” singles from this era were cut loud with relatively deep grooves so as a result superficial marks on the surface of the vinyl are not really audible.
The record would be a conservative visual grade of VG but in reality it is more like a VG+ or Excellent. This is a great example of one of the earliest Beatles singles. The colourful Parlophone paper sleeve has one small tear on the reverse (see photos).
