Rarity: Fairly Rare as this is German 1st Pressing with the Red polydor Labels.and is in an Whole and Complete condition with it's Original sleeve. This is a Genuine 1st Pressing that has the Rights Society GEMA BIEM (Boxed) and has Made In Germany etched into the runout grooves.

Brief Artist & Album/Single Info:  "Cry For A Shadow" is an instrumental rock piece recorded by the Beatles on 22 June 1961. They recorded the song at Friedrich-Ebert-Halle within the gymnasium, Hamburg-Harburg, Germany while they were performing as Tony Sheridan's Backup Band for a few tracks, under the moniker the Beat Brothers. It was written by George Harrison with John Lennon, as a parody of the Shadows style. (The Shadows, who backed Cliff Richard, were the Biggest British instrumental Rock & Roll group at the time of the recording.) It Imitates the lead guitar with typical Hank Marvin licks, the melodic bass fills, and even has an imitation during the second middle eight of the famous Jet Harris yell. It is the Only Beatles track to be Credited to Lennon and Harrison alone. 

It was intended to be released as the B-side of "Why", another Sheridan song with the Beatles, but the record company Chose to release another song instead. In early 1964, as the Beatles were gaining Popularity, the record company Polydor decided to release it, with "Why" Changed to the B-side. "Cry for a Shadow"'s Original title was "Beatle Bop". 

Cry for a Shadow" is the First time a Beatle recording of an Original song has been Commercially released. It was included in Tony Sheridan's E.P. called "Mister Twist (fr)" that was released in France in January 1962.

This song is ONE of only TWO officially released Beatles singles to feature Pete Best on drums. The other is "Ain't She Sweet," although it's alleged that studio drummer Bernard Purdie "Sweetened" the drum parts on this recording for American release.

This also featured on "The Beatles First" and as part of the "Anthology 1" compilation in 1995.

CONDITION                                                                                                                                                

    Labels: The Red Polydor (Push Out Center) Labels are both in Great condition with Hardly any signs of Spindle Wear or Spider Marks. There are no Rips, Marks or Label Lifts anywhere. The Only thing that Spoils them is that a Previous owner has Written either a J a P or the number 1 on Side 2: (Please see my pictures). Because of this I can Only grade them as Very Good ++!!!!

    Vinyl: Plays throughout absolutely Brilliant, with no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. Though a little background noise is Evident during the quieter parts. The record still retains that glossy sheen though there are several surface marks and thumbnails to be seen; these in NO way interfere with the sound quality. This Single plays up to and  beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. The sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from Bert Kaempfert. There is Minimal surface sound and No tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing single, this being the first example in this condition) I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a Very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Very Good ++!!!! 

Cover/Sleeve: The Polydor Sleeve is made of a Very flimsy nature and has done Well to still be around today. There are no Rips or Tears though there are two small Splits at the Bottom and Right side of the Sleeve. There is Also a small Split to the Opening edge. None of these are Noticeable when displayed in a Clear plastic record wallet. There is Also the odd Crease but that Has to be expected from something this Flimsy. This Sleeve is incredibly difficult to find in Excellent or Better condition simply because of the design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade it as Very Good+!!!!

Cover/Sleeve Summary: Not seen often, this one is in Nice condition with only Reasonable clues of age, any blemishes mostly light are to be expected. This classic Sleeve (as described) should please many collectors. 

Album/Single Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness ? I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound. 

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint; the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus, plus)!!!!
