This is NOT an original butcher cover - I just want to be clear on that. The outer jacket is from the 2010 or so era and is a reproduction that I found at a local record store several years back. It is very nice with only a couple very slight imperfections which do not detract from the look IMO. The disc is an original Jacksonville, IL Capitol pressing from 1966. I believe it is a first pressing but I'm not certain, that all starts to get confusing. Matrix numbers are ST1-2553 B8 #2 with () mark and ST2-2553 B8 #2. It plays through with a couple of pops and ticks noticeable but nothing that was bad enough to give this a lower grade. Labels are clean with no spindle marks or cuts/scrapes. I'm Only Sleeping has a small ding that is hard to see but does produce a repeating pop/tick. Nothing skips and it plays through and sounds pretty darned good. The disc is still shiny and really pretty clean for being 56 years old.
My thought is this is a nice way to have a copy of the infamous Butcher cover, I've done the same thing with a Mono cover and disc....don't really need both. Hoping someday to frame/mat it to hang in my office. Good conversation piece but you don't have to sell your soul for something that you would be afraid to handle!
