THE BEATLES - 'A HARD DAY'S NIGHT'
This great sounding UK 1st STEREO pressing of their debut film soundtrack album dates from initial July 1964 release.
On the earliest black & yellow Parlophone label for this release with the 'chubby' style font: PCS 3058
The 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the side 1 label.
Matrices: YEX 126-1 & YEX 127-1
Stamper codes: 2/RA & 2/GM
Vinyl weight: 154g
Housed in a front laminated, tri-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed stereo cover with the mid-sized front stereo indicator.
Complete with its original poly-lined 'Use Emitex...' inner-sleeve.
CONDITION
Labels: EXCELLENT +
Both are clean & bright with light spindle trails around each centre hole, mostly on side 2.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Clean, glossy playing surfaces bearing some faint light surface marks which appear mostly to be from inner-sleeve removal but nothing which we would call a scratch. Closer inspection directly beneath halogen light add some harmless wispy paper-type hairlines but nothing to signify that this disc hasn't been carefully played and well looked-after.
Audio: EXCELLENT +
Nothing sounds as good as an early stereo pressing of this LP. It has such a warmth and presence missing from any other pressing. Our play-check was a true delight with the only noticeable sign of its 55 years being a touch of vinyl background on 'And I Love Her' and a hint of wear on 'Can't Buy Me Love'. Apart from those two insignificant issues, this is a wonderful sounding copy which will not disappoint.
Cover: EXCELLENT
As with 'With The Beatles' before it this cover used similar cheap card stock which turned brittle and broke up very quickly. Thankfully this example has survived in very respectable shape with light storagewear only. The iconic front panel is clean with slight storage rubbing to its high-gloss laminate and there are a few wrinkles to the laminate around the edges. There is also minor shelfwear to the lower corners but no heavy bumps or bruising to any. Both opening edges are clean & undamaged. The rear panel is nice and clean and free from any writing or missing paper. There edges of the flipbacks are a little soiled but they are undamaged, as are both seams and the fully worded spine.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
Fully intact with light storage wrinkling only.
