Description
An original 1st STEREO press of OLDIES on the UK Parlophone label from 1966. Matrix 1G/1G - 1st cut. The very earliest copies should mention the publishing credits all over on the left side of the label. And the mention of stereo should be in large font "STEREO". These early copies were pressed heavy - don't risk a substandard copy [we source the best available on the market]. The vinyl comes housed in an original Stereo G&L cover. Now, the cover is a bit of an enigma... It's fully laminated front and rear - which I have never seen before. Construction of the cover is pretty much identical to a Xmas1966 copy - excluding the rear lamination. But the fact that the format indicator is not appearing on the front makes me think that this is a potential proof variant from '69. Either way the design is still consistent with '66 as those 3 flipbacks are showing. But let's be frank - the lamination has preserved the rear better than on 90% of examples. We also have the original Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In lovely condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Yesterday and Michelle - are the TEST tracks. Nearly all copies - even the good looking ones... play these with a touch of background. And this example is playing then very clean - which is unusual. Yellow Submarine & Rigby play pretty much perfect. All I can make out is the very occasional and isolated minor static crackle. If you need a solid clean player - then do give this example some serious consideration. Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex) A perfectly clean and flat front and rear. No signs of creasing or laminate lift. The rear seems to have escaped the ageing process - that lamination job is stellar! Edge wear is very very limited indeed. The spine is 100% perfect. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. It is, in fact, sturdier than covers of this period as the double lamination is just adding rigidity. A very fine specimen.
Inner (Ex-) Slightest ageing. No splits.
