Description
"Classic" gets over-used as a descriptor, but this album deserves it.
Definitely one of the genuine classic debut albums of the punk era - up there with the debuts from The Clash, The Pistols and The Ramones. Regularly appears on the retrospective lists that crop up from time to time.
TV Smith, Gaye Advert, Howard Pickup & Laurie Driver were an incredibly talented outfit and deserved more commercial success than they achieved.
This debut was released in 1978 on Bright Records. There was a very limited run (500 I believe) pressed on red vinyl, but this is one if the stock copies. Re-issues emerged in the 80s from Butt records and also Bright records, and there are some bootlegs that look very similar to original copies, but carry the unlisted Gary Gilmore's Eyes as an extra track.

Vinyl: VG+. Nice clean copy. Obviously handled and played with plenty of superficial surface marks, but still retaining a nice lustre and sheen. Play-tested and reproduction is still fantastic. Some light crackle and hiss, but it plays through perfectly without any jumps or skips. Any minor flaws are hidden behind the audio. Labels are standard red company design with white label-text. Band name is printed in. "Dymo-Print font. Labels are clean with evidence of spindle-wear.
Sleeve: VG+. Showing signs of age and handling with evidence of edge-wear & light corner creasing. Otherwise, structurally sound. Front cover design features high-rise photo on a splatter painted background. Rear cover shows strip photos of the band with track-listing details and credits. Print finishing by Garrod & Lofthouse.
Nice honest stock copy of a blisteringly good punk album. Clever songwriting with just the right attitude for the time.
