"The Magnificent Thad Jones"
Original thick vinyl, flat lip, deep groove pressing from 1956 on Blue Note Records, catalog #1527, mono. Made in USA.
The vinyl looks VG- due to numerous light surface marks, and a couple of larger ones, on both sides of the record, but they playback is much better than you'd think due to the deep grooves. There is light but noticeable background ticking throughout play, no loud pops or distortion. The front cover has very little ringwear, much heavier on the back paste-on, like the ink from another Lp was rubbed into it. There's also some light age spotting there too. The edges have light nicking along the top and spine, with the bottom edge split more than halfway across.

This LP has one of trumpeter Thad Jones' finest small-group sessions of the 1950s. Jones, who is matched with tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell, pianist Barry Harris, bassist Percy Heath, and drummer Max Roach, performs a couple of his lesser-known but superior originals, two obscurities, and duets with guitarist Kenny Burrell on "April In Paris", which in spots purposely recalls the Count Basie hit recording, in which Jones had played a major part.
