Description
Superb and hugely rare 1961 album in the Lansdowne Jazz Series, this UK 1st pressing on Columbia pairs the stellar talents of tenor sax virtuosos Paul Gonsalves and Harold Ashby, ably supported by Sir Charles Thompson (piano), Aaron Bell (bass), Ray Nance (trumpet, violin and vocal) and Jo Jones (drums). Gonsalves also chips in with some nifty guitar work.
This is an ex-BBC library copy and has survived well.
The flipback sleeve has a 2cm top edge seam split, a bit of laminate peeling to the spine, and a 2cm tear to the back of the opening edge, but is otherwise in decent shape.
The vinyl has the very occasional bit of surface noise and a couple of soft tics at the start of one strack, but otherwise plays really well and the music comes through loud and clear.
The labels have some cataloguing details written on in yellow, but are otherwise in clear, readable shape.
Supplied with an excellent condition period lined inner sleeve.
This is an opportunity to land a jazz rarity, and is priced accordingly. At time of listing, it was the only copy of this album available on eBay or Discogs. Realistic offers welcome.
