Ten SPIKE JONES 78's & Album -- HAPPY NEW YEAR, Chloe, MINKA, Barstool Cowboy

This lot contains ten 10-inch 78 RPM records featuring Spike Jones, plus the album they were found in. Nine of the records are shown in the first picture, then I split them into smaller groups. Get yourselves comfortable, and I'll go through them one by one. My own comments, if any (including label details about vocalists or soloists), are in parentheses. All are credited to "Spike Jones and his City Slickers" unless otherwise noted.

RCA Victor # 20-1893 -- "The Glow-Worm" (vocals by Red Ingle and Aileen Carlisle); and "Hawaiian War Chant" by Spike Jones and his Wacky Wakakians with Chorus.

RCA Victor # 20-1894 -- "I Dream of Brownie with the Light Blue Jeans" (vocals by Carl Grayson and Barefooted Pennsylvanians); and "Jones Polka" (vocals by Mickey Katz).

RCA Victor # 20-3177 -- "All I Want for Christmas" (vocals by George Rock); and "Happy New Year" (vocals by Sir Frederick Gas, Doodles Weaver, George Rock and Spike Jones).

RCA Victor # 20-2118 -- Both by Spike Jones and His Other Orchestra -- "Laura" (with the City Slickers, vocals by Jimmy Cassidy, Red Ingle and Dr. Horatio Q. Birdbath); and "When Yuba Plays the Rumba on the Tuba" (featuring Joe "Country" Washburne).

RCA Victor # 20-1983 -- Both by Spike Jones and His Other Orchestra -- "Minka" (featuring George Rock, trumpet); and "Lassus Trombone" (featuring Eddie Kusby, trombone).

RCA Victor # 45-5164 -- "Old MacDonald Has a Farm" (with Chorus); and "Our Hour" (vocals by the Tailwaggers, Dr. Horatio Q. Birdbath, George Rock and Sir Frederick Gas).

Bluebird # B-11364 -- "Barstool Cowboy from Old Barstow" and "The Covered Wagon Rolled Right Along" (vocals by Del Porter on both sides).

HMV # B.D.1107 -- "Cocktails for Two" (vocals by Carl Grayson); and "Chloe" (vocals by Red "Swamphead" Ingle).

HMV # B.D.1115 -- "Holiday for Strings" (no vocal credit); and "Drip, Drip, Drip (Sloppy Lagoon)" (vocals by Del "Water on the Brain" Porter).

Predictably, of course, as soon as I'd finished taking the pictures another one came knocking on the door, so I let it in, but it isn't pictured, so here's what's on the label:

RCA Victor # 20-1654 --  "A Serenade to a Jerk" (vocals by Judy Manners and Red "Jerk" Ingle); and "Chloe" (vocals by Red "Swamphead" Ingle).

They all look to be in about VG to VG+ condition, still nice and shiny, but with some visible surface scuffs and scratches, some sides more than others. I played them all on my Audio-Technica turntable, and there were no skips or jumps, but varying degrees of background noise. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering devices and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. 

The 12-pocket album is as pictured, with the index page unused and the pocket seams intact, but with some old dampstaining and mildew stains, some noticeable surface and edge wear on the cover, and a handwritten label taped to the spine.
