Description
This is a solid professional digital audio tape recorder (DAT).
Analogue/digital (SPDIF) stereo audio inputs/outputs on the rear. Sampling rates of 32 kHz (long play), 44.1kHz (standard stereo CD quality) or 48 kHz (master quality) onto magnetic tapes. The cassette tapes are easily available from studio suppliers and some top-end hi-fi retail shops. Please note that digital tape recorders do not suffer the same degradation that analogue recorders do through tape-head wear.
Until recently, DAT was the standard format for transferring studio masters to vinyl because it uses linear PCM and doesn't use compression like minidisk and other digital formats that lose some frequencies in the recording process. The advantage of digital tape is that it is simple to operate and once a recording is made it is pretty much safe unlike PC files!
This is a pro machine, so copy protection can be switched off or on as required to protect your recordings. Can also be used to back up sample data from an Akai S200 sampler.
The machine has a robust centrally mounted transport mechanism and has worked perfectly for several years in my home studio. Also comes with the infra-red remote control (batterries included) original box/styrene potectors and paper manual.
A workhorse machine - used only in my home studio - all functions, knobs, etc work fine. The machine is in good condition with original box and manual. Lack of studio space forces sale :-(.
