Description
Talking Heads "Speaking In Tongues" 1983 Transparent LP by Robert Rauschenberg 12 “ vinyl
This is a unique vinyl album, with 3 transparent overlays designed by Robert Rauschenberg. The yellow, cyan and magenta overlays rotate around a center axis to create varying patterns.
I am the original owner. I’m sure it was played no more than 3 or 4 times.
“In 1983, legendary pop artist Robert Rauschenberg designed the album cover for Talking Heads’ acclaimed studio album, Speaking in Tongues. Rauschenberg’s design features three spinning plastic discs set amidst a collage of images, including a wrecked car, highway billboard, and suburban bedroom that can all be spun to produce different effects. Clear vinyl LP, all packed in a vacu-form clam-shell.”
The molded plastic clam-shell album cover is quite yellowed after 40+ years.
FULL DISCLOSURE: there are visible radial scratches on both sides because of a design flaw in the packaging: there is a peg that the record sits on (to hold the transparent overlays together) and if you are not careful pulling the record out of the album, the peg can leave a scratch. Good news is that the scratches are not audible, because they are surface only, and the music is loud with no breaks, so no worries there. See pics for details. I tried to take pictures emphasizing the scratches as much as possible. Truth in advertising!
