Description
"Mating Call"
Original deep groove MONO pressing from 1956 with the 446 West 50th street address on the label, on Prestige Records, catalog #PRLP 7070.
The vinyl is NM, there is only one noticeable mark in an extremely clean and glossy surface, a very light spindle line, it does not affect play. The record does not play minty clean, there's a hint of very light static in the quietest areas and between tracks. The thick cardboard cover has no ringwear on the laminated front, very light on the back paste-on, no edgewear, but there's a 2 inch split in the top edge by the opening.

Sometimes issued under John Coltrane's name, this excellent quartet session features pianist Tadd Dameron (who contributed all six compositions) with the great tenor, bassist John Simmons and drummer Philly Joe Jones. Dameron (who was a fairly basic pianist) has a rare opportunity to stretch out and his originals (best-known are "Soultrane" and "On a Misty Night") clearly inspire Coltrane.
