Tyrannosaurus Rex : Unicorn 2/2 Very early Stereo Press 1969 Regal Zonophone Red Labels

This very early pressing plays to the highest standard possible with no intrusion at all.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is incredible and is one of the finest 60s albums I have ever discovered!  No exaggeration!  It shows just what is possible when a 55 year old record is preserved so well.  Why shouldn't they play 'as new' when they have only been lightly played and so carefully looked after?  The clarity of sound is STUNNING and it qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic.  It is of course such a unique album and it plays beautifully on both sides including the John Peel narration!  This is in no small measure aided by a visually stunning record that looks like it has been sealed in a vault for a long long time!

The laminated cover is in fantastic condition with barely any wear and the original poly-lined inner sleeve is in superb condition also.

I would say this is a second pressing because there is no 'Sold subject to resale...' etc at the foot of the labels.  However, the labels are still the red Regal Zonophone ones and the matrix is still as per the first pressing.

Visual description

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and still has an immaculate glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Even when I look under a bright light I can only find a 3/4 very faint hairlines and barely any 'speckling'.  It is a stunning example and the red Regal Zonophone labels are super clean with only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading  

The run in on S1 has no background not even a dust tick and then 'Chariots Of Silk' plays with incredible clarity and warmth with no intrusion either.  You could not wish for a better start and I cannot overstate just how perfect the audio is.  The same goes for the long fade out also, no background at all.  A Mint start without question.

The 'intro' on 'Pon A Hill' is 'as new' and the vocal and outro play to the same standard also.  Mint

'The Seal Of Seasons' and 'The Throat Of Winter' both play with a sonic quality that is out of this world!  The clarity is how it would've been back in '69 and I cannot fault either track.  Honestly so far the audio is breath-taking!  Mint

The more up tempo 'Catblack' again plays with a clarity and depth that is second to none.  'As new' is no exaggeration believe me!  Mint

'Stones For Avalon' and 'She Was Born To Be My Unicorn' more than keep up this fine standard and play with sensational clarity through every section.  Ok one barely audible static on the former but I'm not going to downgrade because of that and once more Mint is deserved for both.

'Like A White Star...' ends the side with genuine quality once more and each note note is so clean and precise.  It may be the final track and a more powerful number also but the sonic quality does not suffer for it.  A stunning Mint version from beginning to end.  There cannot be many 'sides' from the 60s that grade as Mint I mean there's not even a Mint- here!  Like I say it shows how audio can be when a vinyl has been so carefully looked after.

S2 begins with stunning renditions of 'Warlord Of The Royal Crocodiles' and 'Evenings Of Damask' that play with sublime clarity and definition.  If you win this listen intently to the Damask ending.  It's so incredibly quiet and yet there is not even a single dust tick, literally no background.  Incredible clarity.  Both obviously grade as Mint

The remaining tracks on this side play with unbelievable quality and there is no need to describe them individually.  Once again they all grade as Mint such is the nature of the exceptionally clean audio we have on offer here.  Every vocal and instrumental section plays to the highest standard possible and there is not one single negative.  Special mention for the the John Peel narration - it plays beautifully with only a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  'Romany Soup' ends this unique album with STUNNING clarity but then you won't be surprised to hear that.  Another Mint side in every way.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The fully laminated E.J. Day cover is in lovely condition with hardly any wear.  The edges have no rubbing and the spine remains in great condition and is only slightly compressed near the top.  All corners are so clean with no noticeable wear and the opening edge is pristine.  The front cover is superb with only a couple of minor laminate creases and a handful of faint edge creases next to the spine.  The back cover is in top grade condition also with no wear and the inside of the gatefold is near perfect with only a very small area at the top and bottom right of the right panel that has a slightly rough feel, a minor thing only.  A stunning cover that could hardly 'look' any better.

The original poly-lined 'Plastic Bags...' inner sleeve (dated 1170) is in great shape with no side splits or tears, hardly any marking and only very minimal creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM 95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
