New Orleans duo Twisted Teens continue to carve out a lane entirely their own here. Garage punk's rawness is mangled with the weathered soul of American folk, country and blues as the pair balance ragged, lo-fi energy with razor-sharp songwriting that puts Caspian Hollywell's sandpaper howl with RJ Santos' unique pedal steel. Across these songs, humour, heartache and surreal storytelling all unfold but always with infectious hooks and timeless melodies that recall everyone from The Gun Club to Parquet Courts without sounding derivative. Unpretentious yet also super distinctive, Blame the Clown is further proof that Twisted Teens as one of punk's most original new voices.
