ELUSIVE FOLK/PROGMONSTER!!!STUNNING SONGCRAFT!!!AN INSPIRATION TO MANY SUBSEQUENT  PROG TOP ACTS!!!

!!!!AN EXTREMELY HARD FIND!!! A few hundred (rumoured to be around 400) were ever pressed of this fantastic prog/folk album. It is hard to understand why this never sold in larger numbers.

Tudor Lodge is an English folk music ensemble, which was formed in 1968, featuring John Stannard and Roger Strevens. The group started playing at the White Horse in Reading, England, and later made appearances at other clubs on the folk circuit. In 1969 Lyndon Green replaced Strevens and within a year, they were joined by the American singer and flautist, Ann Steuart. Tudor Lodge then toured the English folk circuit for over two years, playing at numerous venues, including the legendary Troubadour and Les Cousins clubs in London, where they played alongside artists including Ralph McTell, Al Stewart, Mike Cooper and John Martyn. Tudor Lodge also played support for Genesis, Fairport Convention, or Steeleye Span.

Teaming up with manager Karl Blore towards the end of 1970, Tudor Lodge signed by Vertigo Records and their first album released in 1971: Tudor Lodge on Vertigo Records.,[1][2] after which the band played at larger venues, including the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Weeley Festival in Clacton. Weeley attracted 150,000 people and including Mungo Jerry, Barclay James Harvest, Mott the Hoople, the Pink Fairies and Brinsley Schwarz in the line-up.

Tired from constant touring and with little money, Ann left the band in November 1971. A six-week tour of the Netherlands had been scheduled for January and February 1972 and Linda Peters replaced Ann. On their return, Linda left to pursue a musical career with Richard Thompson. Linda's departure signaled a temporary end to Tudor Lodge.

The music on Tudor Lodge is very mellow, harmony drenched and dreamy. It sounds extremely professional and thought through. Considering the mere two weeks it took to record it I find myself baffled and in awe. I suppose the group must have been very tight, having played and rehearsed a lot before entering the studio.

The instrumentation on the album is amazing. All kinds of acoustic playing can be heard, only once or twice becoming electrified. I am amazed, really. What I had thought before seem now like totally untrue. The truth is that Tudor Lodge is a great album, full of the folk I adore. This is classic and really comparable to other stars of the same era, though sounding in a really personal fashion, not copying any of it's peers in Pentangle, Fairport or whoever.

In short: Tudor Lodge delivers an album of amazing, delicate, gentle folk in a completely individual fashion. It's a shame (or is it a blessing?) they did not make another album at the time. On the other hand the impact seem so much greater now, the legacy more intriguing and mysterious. Although the album may be a footnote in the history of music it remains a vibrant footnote. If you're into this kind of stuff I really recommend you get hold of a copy. (from review "Progarchives".)

 Vinyl: EX!! A sensational find!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. There are NO jumps NO skips NO sticks. This vinyl has barely been played. There is just one hairline on side A producing three light pops!!! This will serve as a very healthy investment for the future!! I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection.

     Gimmix foldout sleeve:  EX.  NO major creases, just a couple of wispy edge creases which are hardly visible. Wonderfully textured foldout gimmix sleeve. The one I saw a few years ago had a non-textured sleeve of which there are a few about, although these are likely non-official. This sleeve is the real deal!! A wonderful upgrade hardly found in this beautifully preserved condition. The reverse has light age related yellowing. there are no tears and there is no writing or any marks. Finding it in this great condition is nearly impossible!!! All edges are still crisp. There is some light wear on the folds.All in all nearly impossible to find now and this hardly ever comes up for auction.

Inner Vertigo Swirl sleeve: EX condition. This has the correct date stamp, the original polylined inner!! Only some slight yellowing near the edges. Hard to find swirl inners that have not yellowed somewhat.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! Nowadays any Vertigo Swirl is very collectable. There are, however, a select few, not more than a dozen or so that will raise the pulses of collectors around the world. This is one of them!!! This album is impossible to find esp. in this sublime condition!!! One of half a dozen of hardest to find Swirls, probably with "Ben", "Catapilla" and "Linda Hoyle".

 This is  a great and seriously collectable super album!! 

In all my years this is only the second time I have come across this PROGMONSTER of which only 400 are rumoured to be about. Rare ... anyone?? .

Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .  Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.
