TROYKA s/t Heavy Canadian psych rock Original Sealed
1970/Cdn/Cotillion SD 9020……. here's an original Sealed Canadian copy of this rare Canadian psych lp. The original shrink has split at the bottom right side and a small portion of shrink is missing, there is slight wear at the bottom center on the front, there are a handful of tiny tears, the bottom right side and corner show a bit of light staining, light corner wear there too, the bottom seam there is lightly bumped in a few places, there is a delete hole lower left corner, old price written on the shrink and glowing green sticker on the shrink as well, there is also a bit of light bin wear/dirt on the shrink. A rare original pressing and to find a still Sealed original copy is a dream! Please check my auctions for other psych, folk and rock lp's, good luck and thanks for looking!
The Edmonton, Alberta prog rock trio Troyka were comprised of Mike Richards on lead vocals and percussion, Robert Edwards on guitar, mandolin and vocals, and Ron Lukawietsky on bass, bongos and vocals. The three of them started out in a different group, The Royal Family, which released two singles on the Apex label before they split to form Troyka. They landed a recording deal with Cotillion, a division of Atlantic Records, and cut their self-titled debut in 1970. The album got panned in Rolling S tone, didn't go anywhere, and the band broke up. Mike Richards moved to British Columbia and dropped out of sight, while Rob Edwards and Ron Lukawitski remained in touch and active as musicians, playing in a variety of bands over the years. Troyka was recorded at Round Sound in Edmonton, and produced by Shel Kagan (who also did work with David Gilmour and The Velvet Underground). One of the engineers was Gene Paul, son of Les. "Early Morning" is a gentle instrumental that sounds a bit like Pavement and evokes perfectly the feeling of waking up on a morning when it's snowing heavily outside. "Burning of the Witch" is a heavier number, with nice work on guitar by Edwards. "Berry Picking" is short, funky, and has a great bassline, while "Dear Margaret (Malgosia)" is a melancholy, mostly instrumental tune in the vein of "Early Morning".
