T-REX ''SLIDER'' 1ST UK PRESSING 1972 CAT NO. BLN5001 ((STEREO))) THERE WERE NO MONOS! NEAR PERFECT MINT AUDIO ON MY SYSTEMS!! RAREST AND EARLIEST FEATURES ''Bold Solid Gold is Gold '' Mark ILP.A-1U (Hand etched side 1.) AND ''The Mad Monk'' Mark.B-1u'' (Hand etched side 2.) Mega rare! Earliest ever!!
Another from my personal collection! I have decided to list this for its mega rarety, It it almost impossible to find the original earliest possible pressing of this album, many i have noticed are sold as 1st pressings with the -2u -2u matrix endings but without the original 'master pressers signature' hand etched on the run off grooves very important to collectors that are after the earliest possible for this issue! rarely ever seen with the earliest possible '-1u -1u hand etched featured both sides' try to find another like this? The other important thing is that althought there are some light surface marks on the vinyl,, importantly the audio is absolutely stunning throughout very (very) near perfect on my systems even at very loud volume! Like i have mentioned in my listings many times the earliest stampers make all the difference for the best audio available on vinyl and this one is no exception indeed! This comes complete witth the original 1st issue cover and original red lyric insert!
T.Rex were an English rock band fronted by guitarist, singer and songwriter Marc Bolan. Formed as Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1960s London, the folk rock group's debut album My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows (1968) which reached number 15 in the UK. In the 1970s, they achieved mainstream success as a glam rock band with hits such as "Hot Love", "Get It On", "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru". After waning commercial success in the mid-70s, T.Rex were forced to break up in 1977 after Bolan was killed in a car accident in South London, actually about 2 miles only from where I used to live in London at the time! A real tragedy!!
The Slider is the seventh studio album by British glam rock band T.Rex, released on July 21, 1972. Produced by Tony Visconti, it was the band's second record released with their new glam rock style opposed to the bands previous folk oriented music!!!.
Singles for "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru" were released to promote the album. The Slider peaked at number four on United Kingdom charts The album received very high praise from modern critics, with Steve Huey of Allmusic describing the album as "flawlessly executed, and every bit the classic that its predecessor is!!!
On the recommendation of Elton John, The Slider was recorded at outside of Paris at Château d'Hérouville to avoid British taxing laws. Production started on March of 1972 and the basic recordings were completed in Strawberry Studios in five days. One of the songs recorded at Chateau was "Metal Guru". Bolan described the song as a "festival of life song" and that he related "Metal Guru" to "all gods around...someone special, a godhead. I thought how god would be, he'd be all alone without a telephone"!
Further recording was done at the end of March in Rosenberg Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark The backing vocals by Flo & Eddie were recorded in Elektra Studios in Los Angeles in April!!!!
Two singles were released to promote The Slider. The first was "Telegram Sam" which was released January 1972 and charted in the United Kingdom for 12 weeks and peaked at number one. "Telegram Sam" also charted in the United States and peaked at 67 on the Pop Singles chart. The second single was "Metal Guru" which was released in May 1972 and charted in the United Kingdom for 14 weeks and peaked at number one!

The Vinyl
This is the earliest thicker type of vinyl only found on genuine 1st pressings! This lays perfectly flat on the turntable! In strong light there are very few surface marks mainly scuff graizes\scratches that,, Importantly and quite amaizingly these have very little if (no) effect on the absolutely stunning audio quality which played almost perfect on my systems!!!!
The Audio Quality
I have played this vinylo through track for track at very loud volume on a top system! The first important note is that there is no distortion and (no) loud clicks or pops!!! The audio is amaizingly cristal clear and very very vibrant almost stunning throughout! In fact only on the second track side 1. could i just hear two or three very verlight static ticks but I must emphisise nothing detrimental at all to the awesome audio quality and at a lower normal volume these would not be heard at all! The audio quality on side 1 must grade at least excellent plus! The audio quality for side 2 must grade at least excellent plus to very near mint! Absolutely perfect top audio!!Very (very) near perfect on my systems!!
Please note! I always make this disclaimer, Please allow for the odd light static ticks (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remember that this is a genuine 37 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 39 year old system! (in my opinion the audio is stunning!, a real deep basey feel)
The labels
These are the original EMI custom T-Rex labels Grade at least excellent any spidering is minimal only noticed angled to the light and the spindle hole is perfectly round with no ware!
The record sleeve
Contains the lyrics on both sides (no) splits or tares must also be at least excellent!
The Cover
This is the original unlaminated cover! (No) splits or tares no real main creases worth to mention (very slight creases at spine only) light storageware\rubbing only All writing legable! Must be at least excellent! Superbe for 37 years old like this!
