Description
From the same collection as my other listings comes another beautifully cared for original UK first pressing vinyl LP ... this is Last Exit by Traffic from 1969 (ILPS 9097) on the textured pink 'eye' Island label. In my experience this the hardest of original Traffic albums to locate in fine condition. With one side featuring just two lengthy prog/psych workouts recorded live at the Fillmore West, the content was far removed from the three-minute pop/psych of Paper Sun, and consequently Last Exit barely sold.
This lovely example has barely been played, as you can see from my photos of the labels and when viewing the vinyl under harsh halogen lighting. The disc lies perfectly flat on the turntable and these lovely unblemished textured pink labels are both near perfect, with very little sign of any spindle activity whatsoever, and certainly no wear around the spindle hole. These textured labels often succumb to 'moist' marks (copies of Jethro Tull's Stand Up seem especially prone) but these labels are beautifully fresh, bright free from any age marks. This lovely thick slab of Pink Island vinyl looks near perfect. I can detect no marks when viewing the vinyl under harsh halogen lighting. This disc easily grades EX.
Like Traffic's previous work, Last Exit comes housed in another vulnerable unlaminated gatefold sleeve but once again this example has clearly been little used and has hardly a crease. I have seen some examples of this sleeve totally spoilt by ringwear but there is very little evidence of any ringwear with this example. There are no tears, rips or writing, and all edges are lovely and straight with a strong fine unfeathered opening edge. There is just a little edgewear and some corner rubbing while the spine is the only real area which shows any wear, with a little chipping here and there and the previously mentioned rubbing top and bottom (though this is by no means an abused spine - the spinal wear mentioned here is far less than you would expect for this 41-year-old unlaminated cover). Once again I have tried to detail every aspect of this lovely cover so that there are no hidden surprises, and despite all this detail let me reassure you that this is a very fine and well cared for gatefold which anyone would be proud to hold in their collection. It comfortably grades VG+.
