This is a genuine UK 1st day Pressing of this increasingly scarce record by TRAFFIC titled "JOHN BARLEYCORN MUST DIE”. This is the very Rare 1970 UK Stereo 'Pink i' Island 1st day 6-3-70 Pressing complete with Original E. J. Day 'Parchment' Gatefold Sleeve! Released in very small Amounts as A2//B2 1st pressing and complete with the Ultra Rare Island/UAS (United Artists) Joint Matrix.
This is a pressing consistent with the very high Island Pink label standards. The vinyl is visually in excellent (-) condition in side A and in very good condition in side B. I have played side B in a standard equipment as it has a visible scratch and sounds excellent. It still amazes me how good these old vinyil pressings are. Please see below a description of grades and note that this vinyl is over 50 years old that has been played and will not transform into anything else.
The matrix has the very rare UK 1st press matrix of ILPS 9116 A2 and B2, and the rare second Matrix UAS 5504 A 6.3.70 and UAS 5504 B 6.3.70 plus the word STERLING. The 6.3.70 on the subcontracted United Artists Matrix was the pressing date indicating that this is a 1st DAY press.
The 1st Pressing PINK "i" ISLAND labels are in excellent (+) condition.
It is the final Traffic album to feature on this famous progressive full pink label! This record has a more traditional feel to it than their psych classic debut, especially the traditional title track - but the material is quite mixed. Only six songs feature but all are awesome, when Traffic recorded this gem, they were a tight three piece with Steve Winwood on organ, piano and percussion; Chris Wood on Sax, flute, electric sax and percussion and Jim Capaldi on drums and percussion.
Don't miss this rare record, as it sold in miniscule amounts and is rare to find, especially as a UK 1st DAY pressing. The press run of this record on the pink 'i' logo labels on the 6 of March 1970 was absolutely minimal!
The gatefold sleeve is in excellent plus condition, the opening and edges are sharp corresponding to an LP that has been well cared with minor corner and edge wear. It would have near mint but has two round glue residues in the front from a price sticker. The central sleeve is in near mint condition.
The spine is in near mint condition and fully readable with minor corner wear.
Photos are of the actual item.
PLEASE WAIT TO RECEIVE AN INVOICE IF THE BIDDING EXCEEDS £20 AS IT WILL NEED TO BE INSURED ACCORDINGLY .

Visually-graded vinyl: A visual grading will identify physical flaws (such as scratches) and can help determine whether a record has been cared-for properly. A visual grading will not identify noise or crackle caused by non-visible sources. Most of the records I sell are between thirty and sixty years old and so it is likely that there may be some background noise even if they look perfect.
Play-grading MONO records: Mono records and stereo records have different grooves. A stereo record produces a stereo sound via both lateral and vertical groove modulation whereas a mono record is not intended to produce any sound from vertical modulation. Playing a mono record with a stereo cartridge will create distortion because it is trying to pick-up the vertical (stereo) part of the signal, whereas this is not intended to be heard on a mono record and so is just noise. Using a pre-amp with a mono switch will eliminate the noise caused by vertical modulation leaving just the lateral groove signal which is how the record was intended to be heard. If you do not have a mono switch on your amp or pre-amp you will be reproducing the noise from the vertical part of the signal and so the record will not sound as good. This is not any fault of the record, it is inherent to playing any mono record through a system that it was not designed for.
