Tower Of Power 50 Years Of Funk & Soul: Live At The Fox Theater - Oakland, CA - June 2018 3LP SET 1ST EDITION
50th Anniversary Live Album On 3LP!
Over the course of two memorable evenings in June 2018, legendary soul-funk-R&B outfit Tower of Power returned to Oakland, the city that started it all, to celebrate its landmark 50th anniversary with a few thousand friends, family and fans. The window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit of ToP has been a balm for the soul throughout the band's half-century existence, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater - Oakland, CA - June 2018 couldn't have come at a better time.
This high-spirited live album and video offers a reminder of the communal joys of the live music experience, something that's been sorely missed over this staggering pandemic year. Released as a 3-LP set, 50 Years of Funk & Soul is the next best thing to hearing these brilliant musicians in person. Fittingly for such a special occasion, Tower of Power went all out for these hometown shows, supplementing the core 10-piece band and its iconic horn section with additional horns and a string section.

Tower Of Power Back To Oakland 180 GRAM Import LIMITED EDITION AUDIOPHILE LP
180g Audiophile Vinyl!
Back To Oakland is the fourth album by Bay Area based band Tower of Power, released in the spring of 1974. Tower of Power followed their self-titled gold album with (as said by many critics) an even better album.
This record had tougher, funkier and better-produced cuts, stronger vocals from Lenny Williams (who was more comfortable as their lead singer), and included an excellent ballad in "Time Will Tell," and a rousing tempo in "Don't Change Horses (In the Middle of a Stream)." The Tower of Power horn section reaffirmed its reputation in both Soul and Pop circles.
Back To Oakland was voted by Modern Drummer Magazine as one of the most important recordings for drummers to listen to.

Tower Of Power Step Up ORIGINAL RELEASE LIMITED EDITION 2LP SET
Legendary Soul Band On Double LP!
"We knew when we went into the studio, we were going to make the best record that we could make - the best album of our career. And we did. We took it to another level." - Emilio Castillo
With a landmark 50th anniversary album, 2018's Soul Side of Town, still visible in their rearview mirror, one would think Tower of Power (or TOP, as it is more often referred to by its global legion of fans), the much-lauded creators of their own horn-based, hybrid brand of East Bay soul/funk/R&B/rock, would take a well-deserved breather. But that is not in the band's DNA, nor that of its founder and ringmaster, tenor saxophonist and bandleader Emilio Castillo.
With Step Up, the band forges on into the next decade of the 21st century, keeping to its continuous hardcore tour schedule (200 days a year!) and ongoing reinvigoration with the continual addition of new talent, most notably the phenomenal young lead vocalist, Marcus Scott, among many others. Marcus replaced TOP's longtime lead singer, Ray Greene, who makes his final appearance with the band on Step Up. Also taking his bows on the new album is 30-year TOP veteran bassist Francis 'Rocco' Prestia, who is stepping back from life on the road and whose driving fingerstyle funk is ably replaced on tour by Marc Van Wageningen.
From the band's debut up to Step Up, the Tower of Power sound remains true to Emilio's original musical vision: reach inside the deep, multidimensional well of what is broadly called soul music and bring together all its diverse components in a singular, emotional sound.
It's a dance party cut into four sides of vinyl and ideal for the sunnier days ahead. -Robert Ham, Paste Magazine

Tower Of Power Soul Side Of Town LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE LP SET
All New Material On Double LP!
Celebrating The Group's 50th Anniversary!
Oakland, California music legends Tower of Power - the most dynamic and distinctive band of survivors in Soul Music is roaring into its unprecedented 50th anniversary with a dynamic album of all new material that finds them as energized and inspired as ever. A labor of love, definitively titled Soul Side of Town, this package is charged with 14 filler-free songs. In the spirit of their enduring theme song "Oakland Stroke" the bookending intro and outro "East Bay" shine a light on elemental instrumental ingredients within the band's signature sound. This astounding and historical release inaugurates Tower of Power's fresh affiliation with Mack Avenue Records, a Detroit-based company renowned for its award-winning dedication to top-tier Jazz that is now extending its support to Soul and Funk giants Tower of Power: a band so one-of-a-kind, it's an institution.
As always, the songs on Tower of Power's Soul Side of Town were primarily composed by the hitmaking team of founding members Emilio Castillo (Detroit-born on 2nd tenor sax) and Stephen "Doc" Kupka (Los Angeles-born on baritone sax) who also hold down the world famous 5-man Tower of Power Horns. For the special occasion of Tower of Power's 50th anniversary, leader Emilio Castillo brought in a most-astute choice in co-producer, Joe Vannelli: an all-around production/engineering/keyboard master best known for the jazz-tinged Soul-Rock Grammy-winning work he performed behind the scenes with his international superstar brother, Gino Vannelli. Also insuring that the sound blasts powerful and clear from your speakers is the presence of mastering engineer Bernie Grundman in the mix. Along with the legendary rhythm section drums and bass lock of David Garibaldi and Francis Rocco Prestia, respectively, these decorated veterans have custom-crafted a hair-raising audio experience that longtime fans, music connoisseurs and a new generation of listeners will groove to for years to come.
