TOPS is David Carriere, Jane Penny, Marta Cikojevic and Riley Fleck, and now the Montreal band return with their first full-length since 2020. Bury The Key blends some real immediacy with musical depth and finds them refining their melodic craft while exploring darker, riskier tones. Themes of intimacy, self-destruction and fleeting happiness surface amid grooving, self-produced sophisti-pop that is often brought to life with fictional characters yet drawn from real-life observations. Dubbed "evil TOPS" by Penny, the album channels a sharper, more sinister energy than is their norm and transforms soft-focus disco into a razor-edged, emotionally resonant vibe. This is a finely evolved statement from a band unafraid to confront complexity.
