Description

Recently a friend passed away - he was a gem of a person, and aside from the obvious sadness involved in all that, he was renowned for having one of the best collections of 60's Garage, Beat, Punk & Psychedelic 7"s, EPs and LPs (especially of Australian artists) - gathered together meticulously and carefully for longer than the 36 year period I'd known him. Some things he'd parted with over the past few years of little work and continuing overheads, and a small section was stolen by someone also well-known here (I suspect her karma will come) - but the bottom line is, he had amazingly good taste, and (like a previous recent collection I was selling here) the gems he had were mostly handpicked for excellence....[with some others gathered to complete (often very obscure) label collections].

Anyway, this is one of that huge collection...all of which will appear here over the next few weeks/months.

ARTIST:      various artists -

DATE OF RELEASE:   1965 .
PRESSED IN:    Australia .
ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?   Yes...and a beautiful copy it is too .

Mono original with flipback cover...I'm not sure if you all know the worth of this amazing LP, it contains a mixture of beat, tough garage cuts, ....and moody girl-group stuff backed by garage bands including both sides of the impossibly rare first single by Toni McCann (which have been rated by collectors all over the world as two of the wildest female vocal garage-punkers EVER)...

TRACK LISTING: (** = ORIGINAL AUSTRALIAN COMPOSITION)

SIDE ONE:

NORMIE ROWE (and the Playboys) - 'IT AIN'T NECESSARILY SO'

NORMIE ROWE (and the Playboys) - 'GONNA LEAVE THIS TOWN'** (great Liverpool style beat)

RICKY AND TAMMY - 'WON'T YOU TELL ME WHERE'**

RICKY AND TAMMY - ' LITTLE GIRL'**

THE FABULOUS BLUE JAYS - 'BEAT OUT DAT RHYTHM ON A DRUM'

THE FABULOUS BLUE JAYS - 'I'LL MAKE YOU CRY TOO'** (tough garage punker with cool solo)

MARCIE JONES with the Playboys - 'QUIET'** (utterly wonderful melodramatic moody as all hell girl group classic!...and I mean UTTER classic, as in, Phil Spector or Shadow Morton woulda been ever so proud had they been involved)

MARCIE JONES with the Playboys - 'I WANNA KNOW'** (great rockin' beat in the vein of Lulu's "Shout" and "Surprise Surprise")

SIDE TWO:

TONY WORSLEY (and The Blue Jays) - 'TALKIN' 'BOUT YOU' (snotty punker!)

TONY WORSLEY (and The Blue Jays) - 'I DREAM OF YOU'** (great moody beat ballad; slow, yeah, but a real winner!)

PETER DOYLE - 'HEIGH-HO'

PETER DOYLE - 'STUPIDITY' (raucous wild beat with killer guitar...wonder who backed him...sounds like the Blue Jays)

THE PLAYBOYS - 'DESPERADO'

THE PLAYBOYS - 'THE MEAN ONE'** (brilliant!! - wild utterly rockin' guitar instrumental - eats any Shadows or Ventures track for breakfast...way wilder!!)

TONI McCANN with the Blue Jays - 'MY BABY'** (wild raucous rockin' beat!!)

TONI McCANN with the Blue Jays - 'NO'** (snotty garage punker, with awesome mouth-harp and way cool guitar solo!)

CONDITION:

COVER: (VG++)...glossy laminated front..back cover has some ringwear...

VINYL: (VG++)...BOTH sides are so damn shiny...just has a few very light marks - would be SO close to mint otherwise....truly beautiful condition...has some minor crackles only...

LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT)....

If you have any concerns about the accuracy of my gradings, please check my feedback for the odd nice comment from some satisfied folk out there.... (and hopefully you may be able to join their ranks).

You can pay in US$'s or UK pounds or EURO's or Australian dollars.

Thanks for considering this item. Best of luck if you decide to bid...Cheers, Jules.
